Schumer shouldn’t bring that bill to the floor
If Biden does sign it into law, I could see Trump running on “If you elect me as president, I will unban TikTok!” as part of his campaign and that might actually work too. :snoop:
like, call me crazy, but i really don't want Biden to ban Tik Tok right before this election :dead: as long as the app doesn't disappear before november, i'm fine with it

This is the prime example of how dumb boomer politicians are. I bet you whatever billionaire donor putting the battery in these peoples backs has no idea how the internet works. You ban something people go looking for ways around the ban
Wasting resources on banning an app when people can just ignore the ban and get around it anyway typical USA politics

Besides being a much more useful tool to educate and inform on social media as opposed to X and reddit
I don't really see much being lost by a tik tok ban

Now mind you its going to piss the college kids off but again this is just more racist anti china pandering sentiment with no real bite behind it since tik tok being banned in the US can easily be circumvented

If anything they should vote on banning X/Twitter too since Musk is way more in bed/beholden to china than tik tok currently is

You're really taking this to heart. Can't you just do silly dances on Instagram or some other platform?
Be serious. If these politicians had genuine concerns over data access and national security, they would be imposing strict regulations on accessing private data that applied industry wide, and not just targeting one company. This is nothing more than censorship of information using the Chinese boogeyman as a scapegoat.

:unimpressed: the chinese communist party is not a race
Is it not racism to incorrectly label anyone of Asian descent as being chinese or having CCP sympathies or bias :hhh:

I know they don't cover the embarrassing tik tok hearings on right wing social media but its pretty clear that this whole tough on tik tok BS is just a proxy fight to appease some racist donors imo no other reason to come down hard on this app but leave X/Twitter alone when Elon has literally shown he will bend over backwards to actually curry favor with the CCP

Zuck made the call
He's definitely playing a role.

Facebook paid GOP firm to malign TikTok

The firm, Targeted Victory, pushed local operatives across the country to boost messages calling TikTok a threat to American children. “Dream would be to get stories with headlines like ‘From dances to danger,’ ” one campaign director said.

Facebook parent company Meta is paying one of the biggest Republican consulting firms in the country to orchestrate a nationwide campaign seeking to turn the public against TikTok.

The campaign includes placing op-eds and letters to the editor in major regional news outlets, promoting dubious stories about alleged TikTok trends that actually originated on Facebook, and pushing to draw political reporters and local politicians into helping take down its biggest competitor. These bare-knuckle tactics, long commonplace in the world of politics, have become increasingly noticeable within a tech industry where companies vie for cultural relevance and come at a time when Facebook is under pressure to win back young users.

Employees with the firm, Targeted Victory, worked to undermine TikTok through a nationwide media and lobbying campaign portraying the fast-growing app, owned by the Beijing-based company ByteDance, as a danger to American children and society, according to internal emails shared with The Washington Post.

Targeted Victory needs to “get the message out that while Meta is the current punching bag, TikTok is the real threat especially as a foreign owned app that is #1 in sharing data that young teens are using,” a director for the firm wrote in a February email.
Campaign operatives were also encouraged to use TikTok’s prominence as a way to deflect from Meta’s own privacy and antitrust concerns.

I’ve never used the app save for links that grown ass men have the audacity to send in our chat groups. My biggest beef is I have to take the phone from my nieces and nephews when I’m hanging out with them because they are addicted to that shyt.

With that said, this is some hating ass shyt :heh:

Maybe China should respond by banning Meta and Twitter.

Maybe you should look up their policies that already exist.
