And that last part is the main issue that gets glossed over.
Tanking pays. No one would tank if it didn't work.

how about just make it where the number 10 team gets the first pick...and it just goes backwards from there? Make the scrub teams fight it out

I think they're going to go with the draft wheel, seems like it could work, but the only problem is young squads that are good could end up being absolute juggernauts in that system.
And there's nothing you can do to fix that.
So what stops teams that are close to a last playoff spot from tanking? If my team is a game behind the 8th spot, but a few games from the 10th spot, I want my team to lose games for a top pick.
Would extending this to teams with 6 seeds and under be too much?So wait, what is the argument against giving ALL lottery teams one ping pong ball?

The easy answer to tanking: acknowledge that it doesn't really exist to the degree that it is brought up.
Example: The Los Angeles Lakers are NOT tanking. They suck. Big difference.
How often are GM's intentionally putting out teams with the plan of getting a top pick? And It doesn't seem to be the players that are tanking on the court...its the GMs with the squads they're putting out there.
I see no issue with this...

Depends, had this system been put in place 4 years ago the Heat would have been drafting 6th, 7th and 25th the last few years.
They'd have Drummond right now at the 5![]()
