Not really. This isn't the NFL. The better team wins 99% of the time because they play a series instead of a single game.

i'd like to see references for that stat because i dont believe that at all.

This is fairy tale shyt, and that's if you're merely playing to win a round. Otherwise, you may be playing a win or go home game at the end of the season and really not be upset with the outcome.

only 1 team will win the title. its not a fairy tale to think a lower seed can win a round :what: winning the title isnt the only measure of a successful season for all the teams. take phoenix for example. are they gonna beat san antonio or okc in the first round this year? doubtful. does that mean they should have tanked this year? i would think that would be ridiculous. their season has been very successful.

your scenario...where a couple of win or go home games that a team doesnt care too much about at the end of the season....is much more favorable than watching teams tank for half the season.

In what way?
Because as a 7th or 8th seed you are not rewarded for making the playoffs.

There is no way you can win a ship and you don't get to improve your team on the cheap (by drafting in the lottery)

The way the NBA is currently structured the best thing for Phoenix to do is not make the playoffs

7th and 8th seeds aren't perpetually stuck there. Could easily be a lottery team the next year and get the first pick.

Also teams that are in the lottery for more than 3 consecutive years should start being punished by not being eligible for the lottery for the following year after that no matter what their record is

I also like the idea of ticket prices being discounted every year you miss the playoffs.

Miss the playoffs for 1 year ticket prices are 10% cheaper next year, 2 years in a row, 20% cheaper, 3 years in a row 30% cheaper, 4 years in a row 40% cheaper, 5 years in row and every consecutive year not making the playoffs after that 50% off.

This gives incentive for the fans to go see these sorry ass teams and it makes the organization take being a perennial loser and embarrassment seriously.

The only problem with this is that the owners of bad teams would never go for it. Bad teams normally lose revenue during losing seasons, so making them reduce ticket prices even more would be detrimental to the finances of these teams. I also can't see the league being able to enforce ticket price changes upon the franchises of the league, since the NBA front office isn't an end-all organization.

So wait, what is the argument against giving ALL lottery teams one ping pong ball?

Teams would still tank though. Even if it didn't increase their lottery odds, teams would bottom out to ensure they're still getting a top-five pick even if they missed out on the top three.

I think they're going to go with the draft wheel, seems like it could work, but the only problem is young squads that are good could end up being absolute juggernauts in that system.

I don't get the support behind that system. Teams in the conference finals should not have a shot at getting a top-three pick in the draft. Imagine if Jordan's Bulls were up for a top pick in '92 or '93 and added Shaq or Chris Webber? The Lakers or Spurs getting LeBron or Kevin Durant during the 2000s. There's no way the rest of the teams in the league could recover from something like that.

Bottoming out wouldn't ensure that they get a top five pick :wtf:

Teams 1-14 all are at the same odds

So you're saying the entire lottery is up for grabs by luck of the draw instead of the top-three picks like we have now?

The Suns are trying to trend upward. There's a big difference between the Suns trying to be competitive in the playoffs vs. say the Bucks or this year's Lakers.

Exactly

Why not?
Because there will be teams that are trying like Utah who could get punished and wind up with the 14th pick. I don't think there is a real solution to this. I like the one ping-pong ball idea, but just for the top-three picks like we have now.
