I'd argue since the 80s Brooklyn took over. Keep in Harlem is just one neighborhood a couple of sq miles largeFrom a historical context as far as NYC in concerned is Harlem NOT the AA epicenter of NYC?

True but its not like there aren't other historic black enclaves in NYC. Harlem was just the most famous and that was most likely due to its Manhattan location
funk is actually southern-->then mid west----->.then west coast
the funk that was in the north east was more disco-funk outside of P-funk who were funk rock.

Also west coast “cities” werent OD industrial like NYC. I could be wrong but most stories about people going out west outside of for opportunity it seemed like having land was an benefit.
Weather aside, West Coast Midwest and south (well hub cities like ATL) were places blacks could live that suburban house and yard lifestyle. NYC didnt really have that outside of like Queens?
Idk i could be wrong
Cold hard factsHip Hop consist of 4 element's one being started in the south.![]()
There's plenty of AAs in Brooklyn, especially back in the 80s and 90sI’d argue that as far as the AA ethnic group is concerned Harlem has the greater significance. BK In the 80s while popular now also rose after black immigration started so while AA culture is the foundation you begam to see other black ethnic groups contribute in larger numbers culturally. I won’t say immigration is the reason for its rise but everyone I know from Harlem is AA or at most has one AA parent while most Bk people i know have immigrant parents. Could just be my experience though.
she was a mix between das efx and Snoop. Better rapper, technically.I see why you say that but he really wasn't. Rappers like Dana Dane and even Will Smith copied the hell outta Slick Rick. Only thing really similar about Snoop was the laid back conversational flow. Da Brat on the other hand was just like Snoop at first. Funkdafied was clearly biting off G Thang with her and Jermaine Dupri trying to sound like Dre and Snoop

Think of this way, what has Harlem produced culturally since the 80s vs the rest of New York? It's not a good comparison but viewing harlem as a Mecca still is outdated
Most of us got fam from the same parts of the south so it makes sense.Am I the only one who feels like West coast has more in common with the midwest than the south?
Maybe its just a city by city basis, but outside of Texas, and maybe its surrounding states, south nikkas and west coast nikkas act nothing alike

Blowfly from Conyers GeorgiaRapping as we know it in its current form vs rapping in its raw pure form.
Lol the ancestors were doing call and response to drums in Africa, so that is the root (it its rawest purest form), and then that was built upon in the South with the various music forms and then id argue In the BX they blended the music forms one more time give us rap.
James Brown is from Augusta Ga and many would agree he is the pre cursor to Rap and Augusta is 2 hrs from ATL so we win again![]()

James Brown fathered all that funk shytWhat is the earliest “southern” funk song you got an example of? When I think about it most examples are midwest acts or at most what you could call Midsouth.

But you're infatuated with it thoATL is such a overrated place
In the last thirty years? AbsolutelyI’m speaking from a perspective of shaping/contributing to black culture. You cant tell me BK Has contributed more than Harlem has.
