‘We’ve been stonewalled’: no answers from USPS on missing mail

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The search for answers, and missing mail, continues for several people in Eastern Iowa and throughout the state.

In January, we started reporting on the frustrations of some people who say their mail—documented as processed by the USPS Informed Delivery system—never actually arrives.

Rep. Ashley Hinson (R) said she’s heard the same complaints from her constituents.

“Over the past couple of weeks, my team has been getting calls, stories from several Iowans about that they’ve had this mail go missing in the hands of USPS,” said Hinson.

Hinson said her office started hearing from constituents after the severe winter storm that hit Iowa in January. A rep from her office said they heard from about a dozen people.

This month, Hinson sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis Dejoy. The letter said people have gotten “inconclusive case responses from USPS” and they are “concerned about the lack of transparency regarding where their mail is.”

“As of right now, I have not received a response from Postmaster General DeJoy. We’ll keep following up. Oftentimes, it takes several weeks, if not months, to get answers from this administration.”

The Postmaster General was appointed in May 2020 under President Trump. In August of that year, he testified before a House Committee defending cost-cutting measures he put in place and pushing back against claims they were intended to influence mail-in voting during the 2020 election.

“What’s frustrating in my mind is like, we’re having to reach out to even the Office of the Inspector General, for example, and at every turn, we’ve been stonewalled,” said Hinson.

TV9 reached out to national USPS reps to ask about a response to Hinson’s letter. A spokesperson said they’ve received the letter and will respond directly to Rep. Hinson.

USPS does not care about your mail. We have damages letters dated two to 3 months old that Management refuses to allow employees to process, for whatever reason.

Loose items found from damaged packages get sent to Atlanta almost immediately (this is where USPS salvages your items for Auctioning). Postal Policy is to hold those items for two weeks after Delivery Date ends, but again, Management does not follow any Guidelines.

You have customers calling about delayed packages, giving intricate details about whatever was shipped, but because items are processed immediately, customers are unfortunately out of luck.

As someone who works for USPS, spend a little more and use UPS.

America has become a 3rd world country. Look at the cargo ship that hit the B'more bridge. It failed inspection in Chile, but no deficiencies in the US inspection. People take pride in not giving a fukk now.
