i say this all the time. If he would of stuck to this formula breh would of been michael jackson status by now. Instead this nikka wants to be boy George :snoop:

Tbh that Good Life sound > w/e was on yeezus (although on sight was a progressive step forward, and bound 2 was just classic sampling from Ye)

Flashing Lights was one of the most inventive/influential songs in the decade, if not the rap genre but...ok.

man, i absolutely love the song "flashing lights". from very openin' line of "she don't believe in shootin' stars but she believe in shoes and cars" :wow: then the beat, it's smooth and laid back and yet somewhere out of space or the early mornin' sunlight feel along with dwele who was perfect for singin' on the hook because he doesn't sing over the beat or behind it and then the video had muthafukkin' rita g in it walkin' in slow motion with a bikini on :wow:

Used to be my go-to gym song when it first came out.

Just a classic all around

Its honestly one of the most ground-breaking songs in the genre.

NOTHING like that had been done before.

you know what is one of Kanye's best songs, hands down, no argument? I'm talking top 5:

This.

Graduation is also the first time Ye ever had a street hit. And joints like this and that which were getting constant club/house party rotation. And another street joint, which one of Nottz's best ever beats.
i KNEW it was gonna be that.:pachaha: Set the album off perfectly.

What was groundbreaking about it?
When it came out, it was literally like the first song to truly try something different. It was a complete gamble.

We're not talking andre 3000 level where he was more funk based, this was purely like a revolution in sonics because of how it was mixed and the production on it. It was like a mix of current dance music, electronica, and that classic hip-hop sound. Its hard to describe if you're younger since this is all many of you know nowadays

There was NOTHING Like it when it came out.

Even the synths weren't something that were being used yet. That low-fi sound you hear now thats been popularized? Not popular at the time. I doubt anyone in the mainstream was doing it.

It was like the precursor to all that moody music you hear on soundcloud but it wasn't like that 90s chill wave jazz hip-hop...this was something fresh

Heres the thing, when everyone heard it, they INSTANTLY knew it was unique. It was damn near the moment when people realized that Kanye had basically created something unique.

Flashing Lights (Kanye West song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Many music publications rated it one of the best songs of the decade in ANY genre, and certainly among the best in the year it came out.

It was such a huge song he did THREE videos for it:
