Because a high percentage of people on this site only listen to hip-hop because it's the cool thing to do. These are the same people who will say they "grew out" of hip-hop and turn to EDM as their grown man music of choice. Hence them knowing nothing about appreciating a rhyme style.

I'm :laff:@ this because I've heard this a lot, damn near verbatim. Usually people who say that either really weren't rap fans to begin with, or their only source of hip hop has been through the radio/Billboard. I'd probably feel disgust for rap and would choose another genre if that was my sole take of hip hop as well :mjlol:

anyone can be technical but not everyone can have melody/flow or mic presence/persona besides most of the raps yall hate on are technically sound:yeshrug:

This is not true, because if it was, a whole bunch of dudes wouldn't sound terrible doing it

because rap is not math
you have old heads getting off by READING LYRICS.. :mjlol:
music is a complete package. most of these cornball rappers who try to rhyme a certain way like eLzhi are not musical. Black music should be soulful, emotional. That aspect of musicality is missing in these hyperlyrical rappers

Hmmmm, I get what you saying but to some people like me, the technical aspect of lyricism showcases the INTELLIGENCE required to convey a message in a uniformed rhythmic pattern. I think most "casual" listeners underestimate the intelligence of rappers, and it doesn't help that most mainstream hip-hop is "dumbed down".

I agree that being too technical does take away from the "soul" aspect to a degree
