I think a lot of it has to do with how many white fans obsess over technical prowess moreso than making good music. White people loving Eminem and Tech 9 are great examples of that shyt. That being said I do appreciate technical impressive shyt. I just don't believe it means someone is a great artist. If you can do it while making good music like Kendrick or Lupe's earlier work or Elzhi, more power to you.

I think it just stems from who you grew up listening too as a kid. If you were raised on nas etc you're probably more likely to appreciate a 16 filled with multi's and a complex scheme.

To those ppl it's all about lyrics, whereas people who grew up listening to rappers like idk juicy J probably favor delivery and cadence over lyrics.

I gotta scratch my head at people completely dismissing the skill it requires to write a 16 with a beastly flow and good content throughout. I personally don't consistently bump any artist unless they got a good flow bc to me lyrics come first, but I can still appreciate rappers who can just float on beats and sound catchy af, bc that takes skill too.

Smh. Longest response I've ever made to a thread. But yo like others said Ronnie completely ruined any shot of daily coli users taking a thread about bars seriously

Anybody canNOT deliver a cohesive message/story while at the same time utilizing varying rhyme patterns and techniques. That takes a high level of intelligence and attention to detail. Again, Y'all "casual" listeners stay discounting the intelligence it takes to format 16 highly detailed bars over a beat while maintaining an actual message.

This man told a cohesive story from 3 different perspectives while utilizing numerous rhyme schemes:

This is NOT an easy thing to do.

Y'all really exposing yaselves in here:pachaha:

I would watch grass grow before I clicked play on some shyt like that based on how you described it

He didn't even describe shyt. Just said "story from 3 different perspectives with rhyme schemes" and dropped a link. Zero insight/critical thought.

And I'm supposed to believe he's smart :laff:

I love the "technical" aspect of rapping, but it's not some shyt I talk about or think through that deeply. It's like how you know porn when you see it, I know when a rapper is killing it with all that shyt when I hear it and it makes me :banderas:if the beat is crazy.
But I wouldn't rewind the verse to analyze the rhyme pattern and I've never once used a term like "cadence" when taking about this shyt in rea life. :heh:

Because if you introduce skills into the convo..The fukk rappers they like won't be mentioned

Yep, or the freestyle competitions that can't use autotune. :lolbron:

Basically, we have a very feminine minded set of people lurking on here. Masculinity at its core can break down complex rhymes and technical styles to make long lasting music. A lot of people just want Hip Hop to be EDM/techno so that the thots in the clubs enjoy it.

Need to use some better examples, cause Tech N9ne has made a lot of good music, and Eminem used to. Like 13 years ago

If I remember correctly, you're the dude that championed Views --- an album the equivalent to listening to grass grow --- as a classic hip hop album. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if true, you may want to sit this one out

make a thread about the quality of writing that goes into someone's lyrics rather than their technique or rhyme scheme and I could give a shyt but I don't care if the rhyme scheme is basic af, hell I don't even care if there is no rhymes. Rapping is characterised by rhythm anyway. Rhymes are just candy.

Yesterday I made an innocent thread about eLZhi's use of the ABBA rhyme pattern:

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/elzhi-is-the-king-of-the-abba-internal-rhyme-scheme.469415/

and this was one of the replies:

I've actually been noticed this tho. This is a hiphop site but I can only tell that a handful of you like to actually talk about you know...rap

Y'all don't mind talking about beefs and what these rappers ate for breakfast but when it comes down to actually talking about rap technically then its :camby:

Why is this:leostare:

These young folks care more about beats and videos more than bars. Good bars hurt their ears.

Being lyrical is a CAC thing? :wtf:

Imagine if you told the Lox that...or the Wu Tang. Or Nas. Or Rakim.

People listen to Wu/Nas/Rakim because they have incredible beats and incredible vocal deliveries. First and foremost.

Talking about lyricism to the exclusion of what really matters (the vibe, emotion) is cac shyt. You know exactly what I mean.
