Yesterday I made an innocent thread about eLZhi's use of the ABBA rhyme pattern:

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/elzhi-is-the-king-of-the-abba-internal-rhyme-scheme.469415/

and this was one of the replies:

I've actually been noticed this tho. This is a hiphop site but I can only tell that a handful of you like to actually talk about you know...rap

Y'all don't mind talking about beefs and what these rappers ate for breakfast but when it comes down to actually talking about rap technically then its :camby:

Why is this:leostare:
This is like the same attitude Punk Rock had for technicality. They believed they could carry the genre with no technique. Of course that experiment failed, what ended up happening is punk became musically technical themselves with a movement of bands after the Punk movement exploded.

I think it is the same gutteral reaction people have to movies that have no visible plot line. "Why doesn't this movie have a story" Well, a film isn't a book, why does it have to tell a story? Think about who made that rule of conformity up, probably a film studio executive. People just believe an artform should have rigid rules on how an artform should be discussed. And then we get into the "rappity rap" "lyrical miracle" insults. And we can never really have a honest discussion on the merit of someone's ability.

This is it. You can tell. Half of these fakkits don't even like like hip hop, let alone have the knowledge to talk about it.

@Art Barr 's worst nightmare :mjcry:

What's funny is,...
This culture created all the fun they get to.
Do devoid of most of the scrutiny but don't realize.
they will phase it all out and take y'all back to ward cleaver era without hiphop.

As a matter of fact it already started and they are rescuing their classism and making it mad boring.

People listen to Wu/Nas/Rakim because they have incredible beats and incredible vocal deliveries. First and foremost.

Talking about lyricism to the exclusion of what really matters (the vibe, emotion) is cac shyt. You know exactly what I mean.

You can make great songs and "melodies" and still being lyrical with emotion, delivery, etc.

Problem is, people think that it cannot be done nowadays. It's either you some Canibus type nikka that cant understand song structure, or some Lil Uzi non lyrical as that relies on autotune and techno sounding beats that mumbles on beats to make the thots go crazy in a crowded, sweaty club.

Lol at these dumb motherfukkers trying to put ridiculous labels on LYRICISM, go ask Rakim, Pharohe Monche, Ras Kass, Canibus, Nas, KRS-One and so on if lyricism is a "cac thing". The best lyricists in Hip Hop have historically been black, so NO, it's that YOU'RE too stupid so trying to put a label on lyricism to downplay it cause you're a dumb fraudulent effeminate p*ssy who isn't intelligent enough to grasp let appreciate great lyricism.

Lil Uzi's problem isn't that he's 'non lyrical'. It's that his beats and his vocals are shyt.

This is actually true for those who don't know.

And the main reason people hate those threads is because JUST LIKE THIS ONE they are mainly to get attention.

from reading those types of threads, majority of y'all have no clue what a true rhyme scheme or structure is. be highlighting words that don't rhyme with anything and missing the actual rhyme pattern in the verse

because rap is not math
you have old heads getting off by READING LYRICS.. :mjlol:
music is a complete package. most of these cornball rappers who try to rhyme a certain way like eLzhi are not musical. Black music should be soulful, emotional. That aspect of musicality is missing in these hyperlyrical rappers

This doesn't necessarily apply to Elzhi because if you listen to his "Out of Focus" EP he came out the gate soulful, emotional, AND hyperlyrical. But few people have pulled that off, one can argue he just hasn't lived up to his potential.

But since @PhonZhi made this a general post, your reply is on point. If we remember the whole Soundclick era, 99.999% of the people posting their music on forums were making soulless pattern based rhymes. It was a big circle jerk, because none of those guys really made a dent, I bet half of them never really went outside.
