This is like the same attitude Punk Rock had for technicality. They believed they could carry the genre with no technique. Of course that experiment failed, what ended up happening is punk became musically technical themselves with a movement of bands after the Punk movement exploded.Yesterday I made an innocent thread about eLZhi's use of the ABBA rhyme pattern:

and this was one of the replies:
I've actually been noticed this tho. This is a hiphop site but I can only tell that a handful of you like to actually talk about you know...rap
Y'all don't mind talking about beefs and what these rappers ate for breakfast but when it comes down to actually talking about rap technically then its
Why is this![]()
I think it is the same gutteral reaction people have to movies that have no visible plot line. "Why doesn't this movie have a story" Well, a film isn't a book, why does it have to tell a story? Think about who made that rule of conformity up, probably a film studio executive. People just believe an artform should have rigid rules on how an artform should be discussed. And then we get into the "rappity rap" "lyrical miracle" insults. And we can never really have a honest discussion on the merit of someone's ability.

Do you think we have different ears, friend?
