End of the day he gave his money where he wanted. That money is going to be invested in something he wanted and he is going to get a tax write off for it. So that is that. Now on to the elephant in the room. This whole community aspect. Because I'm guessing that is what this really is about, we want our successful black men to give back to the community. Well until I see Dr. Dre as a leader of the community or at least trying to be one I will care where he sends his money. I see Dre as a successful producer and former rapper. He puts him money into what he wants, but I don't see him the type to have political stances or pro-black empowerment stances. I'm just saying, being FOR the community hasn't been in his character. His money could have done a lot of good but where would it go? Who would benefit? I'll leave it alone. 35 mill to USC. It's history.

edit: He is getting a lot for 35 million tho. It's not like he is just giving it away and not getting anything for it.

Because his money won't be going towards black kids who may want to go to USC. Like he should just give his money away to help them. I'm pretty sure that new department they are building will give scholarships like any other department at any other university, but people are all bent outta shape that he gave that money to USC instead of El Camino or Mississippi Valley State University. It's the same shyt as usual. "Why didn't he help out black people?" Like Dr. Dre was MLK Jr or some shyt. For all we know Dre's boyfriend goes to USC.

HBCU's are the by-product of blacks not being allowed to attend white institutions.....didn't you think that integrated school systems would eventually bring a demise to such schools?


yes, they have a high sentimental/historical value to the black community...but do we "need" them to ensure that black people get a fair chance at an education? No.... are they the only channels for blacks to get a higher education? No.


you can't name a HBCU that is even comparable to USC in the arts,film,media,technology or business.... Morehouse, Howard,Hampton and Spelman are nowhere near USC in those areas.

shyt, not one of you could even explain how Hollywood was gonna grow legs, and replant itself in DC, Virginia or Atlanta to accommodate such a program.
