The problem with saying "rappers looked gay as fukk!" and posting pictures from 1982 or some shyt is hip-hop had close ties to the club/disco scene initially so it informed the style of dress.
People like RUN DMC put an end to that almost immediately though.

I have no idea. But nah, that shyt wasn't actually hip-hop. It was dudes dressing a certain way due to an influence on them prior to hip-hop having a style of it's own.
There is no excuse in 2014, though. People were saying the same shyt when Wayne popped up wearing women's pants, as if there ain't been a 30 year window where hip-hop found it's own voice, and look.
