The only problem is that now you got players so spoiled by buyouts that they are whining about being traded instead of bought out by their former teams and given their pick of destinations.

Case in point JJ Redikk and how he had to ensure the Mavericks that he would actually show up instead of sitting out since he didn't end up in Brooklyn. A player that you trade for is now giving demands about whether he wants to play for you or not :mjlol:
Said player never agreed to play for you to begin with:yeshrug:

Yeah I don’t know if this is going to change. NBA athletes take being divas pretty seriously.

That's been happening too. When Alonzo Mourning was traded to the Raptors he refused to show up and play for them so they bought him out and that was back in 2005.

Shouldn’t owners be thrilled with the buyout process? It usually ends a bad contract situation and the owner keeps millions of dollars for themselves.
they probably want to keep more millions and still get rid of the bad contracts.

or they just gonna demand that it's against the rules for bought out players to come to the Lakers.

small market haters at it again:unimpressed:

Said player signed their original contract, so no use in crying foul when they end up getting traded. Redikk didn't have to take the $26 million dollar contract that NO offered and instead moved closer to his family years ago. He just wanted out so he could get a championship ring and there's nothing wrong with that.

Dallas had that situation with Lamar Odom years ago and they ended up not buying him out, but also not putting him on the playoff roster.

I'm surprised Lou Will is going to ATL as he's always talked about how his heart is and has been in LA.

In the case of Griffin, the buyout benefits Brooklyn more than Detroit. Yeah, he gave up $13 million, but Detroit is still on the hook for the remaining amount of his contract while Brooklyn gets him on the cheap. Granted, it's Detroit's fault anyways for being dumb enough to take on Griffin's contract in the first place lol.

In other buyout cases, a player could give up millions but get some if not all of it back from their next team. In that instance, it benefits all parties involved.
