They can shoot me a text or visit. :mjlol:I don't even like the social scene here either really because its just fake/scared people trying to put on for other fake/scared people. Half the city feels like its propped up on imposter syndrome...

But its ridiculous out here to the point where its obviously not sustainable. It was bad *before* Covid hit. Costs were already going through the roof. But once the evictions took off leading to a second warp of the housing situation? They're going to price out the middle class. And while yeah that sucks by itself, DC can't function well in many aspects without those people being able to get to work comfortably. Its causing all kinds of issues.

Honestly I'm fortunate that I can think about most of this without having to consider how I'll support kids or family. If I did? I'd have packed it up last year.

You aint lying, it seems so phony here, like one big costume party. And there is an undertone of fear. People are living well, but most are one missed check from catastrophe. I have a feeling the economy will take a huge hit and the government and companies with have to lay off masses off people.

Back the to phony shyt, I'm dating this professional woman from S. Carolina, she's very cool but still acts like she's at work when we're chilling, I'm like you can turn that professional shyt off with me, we're from the south. Let's be normal.

Why did you move back if your house is paid off in Louisiana?

Are you renting out the pad in Louisiana?

IT jobs are scarce in Louisiana, and making 100k is even rarer. I"m airbnb my house out right now. So glad I got that backup plan in case all this fails.

I could be tripping because it’s early, but how are you being taxed damn near 40 percent? 100k divided by 12 is 8,333. How are you being taxed 3000 a month to end up with 5200?
I always divide what ever salary by 26 since it’s 52 weeks in a year.

This is true. I moved back to DC from LA a year ago. I had roommates in LA…living solo here in DC. I’m definitely a lot broker lol. This NW rent is kicking my ass. $2150 for a one bedroom:francis:

I’m trying to make living in the city work…I don’t drive at all because I live next door to a redline metro stop. I work at home 98%.

Look for a position that pays more money. If you’re just at 100k or the lower end, you may have short changed yourself.

Did you research the market before you made the move?

I just moved to Navy Yard like 3 months ago. Its expensive. Rent 2500.. then parking is 250.00 a month. I love it, but it does feel like a waste of money at times. I also felt like my house PG county was expensive and too far out the way. So, it levels out. The amenities and location make me feel better about the decision to be in DC. My best friend made the same decision 5yrs ago to rent out his PG county home and get an apt in Navy Yard DC.

My first job in NYC was little more than150k and I was paid bi-weekly and I’m pretty sure it like 3500 every two weeks or something. I don’t remember now. But it definitely was over 30 percent gone to taxes and then add in 401 deductions.

I live in College Park, MD near the University of Maryland, and make between 70-80k.
Ive been saving for a house and its brutal out here.
I need like 30k more in cash to even get a townhouse that I like.

:damn:

But every metro area in the country is going through it right now. Its no longer just the major cities on the coasts.
