I've been suspended in high school before and the last thing I was allowed to do was go anywhere. I wish I would have thought it was ok to leave the house during suspension...moms was not having that. Plus I still had to do all the school work I missed.

I'm sorry to hear that :ld:

Both my parents worked, and I was crafty with my excuses. Got away with murder growing up (teenage yrs). Till this day my older sister complains about how lenient they were with me. :smugdraper:

:pachaha:... I be seeing these young niccas wearing uniforms to school when im on my way to work in the am and they look like fukkin dweebs. One of the highlights of my day was getting super fresh in the morning when I was in HS. Kids have to worry about the silliest sh1t these days... You can't even bully people anymore... SMH

This definitely could've been handled differently by the school, if you make a rule you should make consequences when the rule isn't followed.

When I was in high school a uniform rule was enforced my senior year. People cut them up, wore things under them and left the shirt unbuttoned, bought pins to cover and the kids without "cool" uniforms still got made fun of.

I didn't wear the uniform, but I wore clothes of the same color. The "punishment" was in school suspension, we still got all of the work from our classes but we weren't allowed to talk or leave for any reason. There was a bathroom in there and we ate lunch there.

Eventually they gave up and let me go to class as long as I respected the colors.

I'm not sorry that I was disciplined.

I think uniforms encroaches on personal freedoms and nurtures a military complex for later in life

Yes, it does...which is why the students should retrospect the arrangement now.

A couple years ago, my job got an official dress code. White shirt, tie, clean shaven every day. Plus, you couldn't smoke on premises anymore. Niccas tripped...but you know what happened, right?

They either got with it, or found another job.

One dude who was 17 years in left for another job...did that other job for a month or so, then begged to come back (even quit smoking).

So yeah, we adults have to sacrifice our personal freedoms for the "military complex" sometimes. These young'uns gotta pay dues, too.

The small shyt is part of the reason why schools are the way they are.

Wearing uniforms just boil down to discipline and wearing them is one of the small starts to achieve this.

Kids who are disciplined perform waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than undisciplined kids

Yeah, I'm just wondering what are these waaaaaaay bigger problems that people are referring to that are bigger than discipline

the thing is though, this is a public school. there should be no hinderances like this to go to school, i can understand private schools, but suspending students over non violent actions is stupid and counterproductive to learning.

What? Public school should be even more restrictive than anything else. You're getting a FREE education and you can't wear the uniform correctly? You ungrateful b*stard. I really think parents should pay for schooling , I bet they make sure the child's grades are up and the are following the rules then.

I'm glad I didn't go to a school system that used a uniform policy. In my opinion its stupid. Kids need to learn that everybody has a different situation. I know plenty of people that went to schools with uniforms and they pulled just as many stunts as us.

So some teacher or group of teachers who are proably underpaid anyway have to stay more hours to detain these children? Nah, keep them home with their parents and let their work schedules/lives be interrupted. I bet after two days the parents made sure those kids were in uniform.

:lawd: You preaching. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Let the parents take responsibility for their child(ren).

if its a free education, and there isnt a statewide or federal mandate for wearing uniforms that is uniformly applied over all school districts, why should they be subject to this?

i take offense to this because the white high schoolers down here have uni's also, and abuse the policy waaaay more, but i dont see their white principals suspending them by the hordes

half the parents aint graduate either, thats why they are living in this neighborhood getting reduced lunch n shyt. this is not the time to be getting on a soapbox, if anything, challenge them harder, dont take them out of the educational process

Is it a public school or private one? And honestly it doesn't matter and it's not a racial thing. This particular school decided that not following the uniform policy is important and took action and I'm not mad at them.

Man, if two days home is fukking up your educational progress you probably weren't into school all that much anyway.

I'm not on a soapbox (not really), but at what point do we stop putting all the responsibility of raising inner city children on the teachers? Teachers shouldn't HAVE to stay after school everyday because of hard headed children need some type of punishment. Teachers have lives and families too you know. We have to stop passing the damn buck and making it easy for parents to just say "the school will deal with it." Parental involvement is one of the number one predictors of students' academic success and behavior in the classroom. Some times you have to do things to get parents' attention.
