100 students suspended over uniforms

Is it a public school or private one? And honestly it doesn't matter and it's not a racial thing. This particular school decided that not following the uniform policy is important and took action and I'm not mad at them.

its a public school. i feel it is racial, because now more than ever, white boys sag, and the whites overall down here abuse the policy more than the blacks, but this principal just has to lay down the law.
but yet their graduation rate remains stagnant, nothing is done about that.

all im saying is that there are bigger fish to fry, and plenty of those fish.

I'm not on a soapbox (not really), but at what point do we stop putting all the responsibility of raising inner city children on the teachers? Teachers shouldn't HAVE to stay after school everyday because of hard headed children and need some type of punishment. Teachers have lives and families too you know. We have to stop passing the damn buck and making it easy for parents to just say "the school will deal with it." Parental involvement is one of the number one predictors of students' academic success and behavior in the classroom. Some times you have to do things to get parents' attention.

parental involvement is key to student achievement, but lets be real, this wont increase parent involvement. this will not make people go to more pta meetings, this will not make parents worry about homework.

mind you, some students in this school dont even have TEXTBOOKS to take home, and most do not even get homework on a consistent basis. if there were not atheletic and band scholarships, a lot of students would not even make it to college.
if youre gonna focus on uniforms, you should at least make sure the rest of the school is functioning properly

I can see why a principal would want ALL of his students to adhere to a written uniform policy when in actuality it really shouldn't be that difficult or a big deal to wear what's outlined for you a few hours out of the day. The school is probably over populated anyway and the last thing a teacher needs is students focusing on a bright ass jacket or stripped socks rather than the actual work. Nor should you have to look at ANYONE's drawers on a regular basis.

I completely agree with the last sentence. Don't pick and choose/ONLY focus on the most minute aspect of student achievement and not the bigger things.

Man, if two days home is fukking up your educational progress you probably weren't into school all that much anyway.

truuu, but i dont care if its one hour. students should not be rewarded with time off for breaking rules. and those two days could be test days, not to mention some organizations and scholarships disqualify you for suspensions

I agree with this. But at the same time the kids should be the number one priority, and sending 100 troubled kids home for two days is never a good idea. They probably did all types of fukking drinking and smoking. Those kids kicked it for two days and probably will still abuse the uniform rules. In my opinion a better idea would have been to make them come to school and take away privlages that they enjoy.

If getting suspended is a "reward" then you probably weren't going to do well on those tests anyway. You probably don't give a bunch of fukks about your education as a whole. If you were given ample warning that you were violating the uniform policy and you STILL choose not to correct your action, then you have to deal with the consequence of your decision and that includes lost of scholarship or not being able to try out for the dance team or whatever.

You can't compare coaching sports to babysitting uniform violaters LMAO! One seems a lot more fun than the other.

fukk a uniform, i grew up in texas with one of the worst school systems in the country. so many more things need to be addressed before uniforms become important.

u never lied...its a couple of schools in tx right now..that r strict on dress code..

since the 90s...that cant get over 50 students to pass the ol school itbs...teams taas taks or the staar test...

that cant keep a principal....its a revolving door...kuz everybody wanna be george mckenna or joe clark....get into the hood tx schools..n see all that ass

n temptation get em fired...instead of them following their agenda...

these are kids. Kids never follow rules, that's why they need guidance. I don't think a kid should have his adult life and succes stagnated because he made a mistake. Dance team is one thing, but loss of scholarship

We should be looking to help kids, not make their lives more difficult.

i used to coach, and quite honestly, as long as im getting paid, anything is game. detention only lasts an hour, while as i said, practice can go well into the night.



you know rawtid, you would be an involved parent, but you cant assume people have as much sense as you. and just by the simple definition, the school is public, all-inclusive. today, we are suspending them for something this trivial. what will it be tomorrow?
