People keep claiming this is a choice between the economy or public health , but we can't have a strong economy without getting control of the virus. People randomly dying and entire offices getting infected will wreck the economy more than a lockdown.

Bullshyt. Half the country prly already has this virus. And most of those who are dying prly didn’t contribute much to the economy either because they were old and or sick.

Prior to this pandemic, 30 people dying in a club in Orlando was considered a national tragedy. Now we got 912 dying in a day to a virus that anyone can catch just by breathing. So yeah it's a lot.

i don't understand why it's so difficult for people like you to understand that this virus is highly contagious. if a high number of people suddenly bombard hospitals at once, filling them up to capacity and there isn't enough beds or equipment to service them, people will die.

Exactly this. It sounds callous, but corona is mostly killing off people who didn’t have much longer anyway. The economy shutting down has much greater long term impact than the net benefit of extending a few people’s lives by a few months.

This should be that time when our economy is solely focused towards mitigating and slowing the spread of this disease by producing the aforementioned.

I wish we were extending more solidarity towards other nations in a time of crisis and excercising unity.

It's the just this pervasive attitude that might be innately American/Capitalistic in nature that money is more important than human lives and the idea that is being pushed that we need to have an acceptable level of death to keep the economy going. Which is just despicable that our President is pushing this...that's why it's been fukk Trump. Because he fumbled this crisis so greatly, he wants us to sacrifice our lives just so his stock trading buddies, investors, and wall street/1% repukes can be happy.

lives are more important than money up to a certain point. At this rate, by shutting down the economy, the government is telling us that a each dead boomer is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s absurd.
