Owners will be losing money. What the fukk do you really expect them to do?
i've gone over this before. let me go over this again. if you cant pay your employees a liveable wage. then you dont deserve to expand your business enough where you need X amt of employees you cant pay said liveable wage. its that simple.
if i start my business.. a little sandwich shop. seats 4 tables max, and gets to go orders. so i start out with myself, my wife, and say a friend of ours. 3 people. 1 on the phone taking togo orders and working the register, one on the grill, one on prep.
its going to be tight, but we can Get ER DONE.
If i start thinking "mannnn... we need a waitress and a bigger space..we're making pretty good income now. lets expand."
we can't expand unless i can pay my worker(s) a LEGIT wage that they can LIVE ON. if the answer is NO i cant pay that wage. then the answer to expansion is NO also. THIS my friends is what these american businesses do not understand or dont care to understand.
These business owners are use to low balling their employees. So they think expansion and think $9/ hr is going to cut it. its not.
and for those who say "but bu bu... seattle is going to have less places to eat for cheaper." i say SO WHAT. if i had to choose between people being able to pay rent vs being able to go out and eat at a cute cafe. i'll choose door #1.
Do you think a broke $10/hr or less with 2 kids to feed is caring about the eateries in seattle? NO. because they cant do the basics which is keep a roof over their heads. basic room and board is a necessity people. then we can start talking about amenities like more cute places to eat for less then $15 a meal.
and for the record. the people crying about "no minimum wage hikes." are repubs and libertarians. These idiots think we should keep it low so that small businesses can afford to operate. because they are more for Business then they are for PEOPLE.
So lets use their flawed logic in this scenario. person makes less then $9/hr with a couple of kids to feed, clothed, and house. they cant afford it on that salary. so they get on the Govvy's nipple. wait, repubs and libertarians..dont wnat big Govvy. Ok fine, no big govvy to suck from. so this broke person gets on the nipple of some charity group(s). wait a second... charities are tax exempt via the Govvy. So at the end of the day that is still on the govvy's nipple.
and lastly, to run a charity or even govvy programs. you pay out a ton of the money to Administrative cost. so most of the money that a charity gets or even the govvy, is going to workers that work there. not actual people in need. when all you have to do is cut out the middle man and pay people a decent wage.
