The reason 1 on 1 isn't real basketball is because basketball is inherently a team sport.

It's like saying the Oklahoma drill is real football.
Or live BP without fielders is real baseball.

1 vs 1 is ego shyt and it might be fun. But it has never proved anything.
There are far too many basketball failures who could dominate 1 vs 1 situations to act like it would be true.

I was a DB in high school. We are at the disadvantage because we are reacting the whole time. Especially if you don't set a limit on when the QB has to get the ball out.

There's a reason why it matters for the decision on who gets the ball first for 1V1.

It's real basketball, but just a part of organized basketball.

Whoever had the DB vs WR matchup was spot on because it's similar. Neither can or should be taken out of context of the bigger picture and yet individual wins matter.

When you're playing one on one you don't have to worry about anything else. Switches, screens, help defense, awareness, court vision, running a play, pretty much anything.

It's also not an indicator of anything if you can beat someone one on one. Just like it's never an indicator of WR beating a corner on a free release in practice, it's not an indicator that some dude is really good at pro level basketball because he kills everyone his size in 1v1
Where I find value in the 1v1 match ups is who as a wide receiver can't create their own separation and what DB can maintain fluid hips, play press, and react and recover.

I think you're right. 1v1 is skewed toward the offense. So a player that can't excel there or can stop a play is a promising piece of evidence.
