Yep. Especially 2000-2002 which was basically an extension of the late 90s somewhat. By at least 2006, you started to see it fall completely off in mainstream.It was OK in the early 2000's but it fell off horribly by the mid 2000's.
I think the 00's are underrated, but this is true and still prevalent. Even the people that could've blown up and been something else(Breezy) decided to fukk around too much. Biggest problem is that R&B stars really want to rap, while rappers really want to be on that crooning shyt. This is the Ye 808's-Drake effect, and I say that as someone who fukked with 808's and So Far Gone. That album and Drake's success pretty much opened the floodgates to current mediocrity.If you compare it to the 90s and other decades, of course it's gonna look bad. The 2000s doesn't have a Whitney or a Mariah, an MJ, Janet or Prince. There are NO ICONS. but it wasn't that bad overrall
