They drafted Gordon, Payton, and oladipo... All three really good defensive players, so it makes sense to surround them with perimeter shooters
The current system has that salary floor too though, so Orlando couldn't just be the Houston Astros of ball either. So when marquee names aren't coming to you, and you can't find the right trading partners, you end up overpaying mediocre FA's.
They are gonna get billed to 90% of the cap whether they spend it or not, so might as well get some players for it.
If they think Frye is a decent piece to add, and Phoenix wants to keep him at that Boris contract, Orlando gotta go years and a higher annual value than the one he opted out of.This. Teams still gotta get a 12-13 man competitive NBA roster and while were all still waiting on Bron, Melo & Bosh to make a decision, ORL isn't gonna sign any of those guys, they gotta get guys on the team.
BTW, overspending is relative only to who's paying. ORL is doing what they gotta do to build a team
fukk are they suppose to do? Dead franchise at this pointThe Lakers silence thus far is stunning.
One Western Conference general manager told FOX Sports Ohio a lot of people around the league are actually hoping the Heat's Big 3 returns intact. "One thing (Miami has) proven the past four years is they can't add any real talent around those guys," the GM said. "Their run will be over in two years, and it may already be. I'd be considerably more scared of LeBron in Cleveland or Phoenix."

Growing expectation that the purpose of LeBron's meeting with Riley will be to inform Heat of his decision to return to the Cavs.
