It's not that they can't be, the pieces and the talent is there, but the level of competition in the West is unforgiving. In the West, anything goes.

I agree. They got to the second round basically with 6 players. They have to, and they will, play their young, promising players more.
I think they will be. They are going to rely on their home-grown talent. Specifically Thomas Robinson and Will Barton. Both showed flashes of being contributors/rotation players last season. Barton had a huge game in the only playoff win against the Spurs. Joel Freeland as well before he got hurt late in the year. CJ McCollum is the wild card. He can score but he's too out of control. But the coaches kept going back to high minutes with the starters and Mo Williams. They have indicated that will change next season.
Plus, they still have two-exceptions they can use since it's unlikely they re-sign Mo Williams.
