Uh... because 70 mil would be a much lower % of the cap starting next season and even moreso the next allowing for more future flexibility

:dahell:

I get that.

I thought he was saying in general he was worth max money under the old cap, but not under the new one. Which is why I said either way they're the same percentage

What PGs are available via trade that the Bulls could get with their current assets?

They only have Calderon and Grant at PG on the roster. Jimmy Butler and Valentine might really be getting a lot of minutes at point this season.

If youre paying horford 18 mil and the cap is 110 mil you can still compete

If youre paying horford 28 mil and the cap is 110 mil you cant compete

Normally the cap jumps like 5% so the player raises make their percentage of the cap stay pretty constant. Cap made a huge jump this time so the percentage of the cap he would be eating drops dramatically.

A max of Horford in the old cap would've been more like 22-23 mil a year. And I think you could complete regardless depending on who else you had, but that's not the point.

I misinterpreted your post. I took it as if you were saying, if the cap never jumped and was still between 70-75 mil you'd be willing to pay him max money every year, but not with a higher cap. Which is why I said either way he's getting the same percentage.

I don't disagree with the premise that you've rather have him on a cheaper deal long term

Horford is a beast. We use him differently then most would to maximize our team impact.

Overpaying Horford is an L waiting to happen

All he does is come up small when you need him

Terrible rebounder can't score consistently and wants to shoot 3s and bring the ball up the court now

No way am I maxing Horford

Bud & Wes will offer him the max regardless of what you said (and I agree with you BTW)

For what it's worth I don't think he leaves b/c the team and organization really really like him and they value him. He's the leader in the locker room, but Al is really a complimentary player on a championship team, he's forced to be a 1 here. Part of me could see him leaving to go to a team like GS just b/c the expectations would finally make sense for who he is and he could be mediocre in the playoffs and no one really care. When he plays like he did against CLE in the playoffs he gets killed locally b/c he's expected to be a #1 alpha dog for us...that pressure goes away if he can go be Chris Bosh somewhere

We won 60 games and got to the ECF with him as our leader with a weak bench. I don't see how you don't see the value in Al. He's not the reason we got swept. That's on Bud not addressing the SF with a NBA vet who can start. Instead we use a 6'3.75 wing to defend LeBron and SF and wonder why our starting five efficiency
drop like a ton of bricks.

What is Al Horford really worth lets be honest. He is not a max player. But what teams are realistic threats to grab him from the Hawks....(Celtics, Rockets, Pistons, Magic, Blazers, Wiz) are their any other teams that want Handsome Horford?

He's clearly worth today's max. But when the max used to mean great player who can win a title, naw, he was never worth that. Nowadays, DeRozan, Batum, Whiteside, Jordan and others are max players so clearly Al is worth the max.

Horford is an All Star and a good player, he's a leader and a stand up guy. But nothing about his game is beastly. He disappeared (again) in the playoffs and there's nothing that he does that suggests that he would be an impact player in the playoffs moving forward. He's not worth the max, but I'm confident he'll get the max b/c the Hawks think like you and over value him
