I was giving this some thought and considering that Pogba is gonna be our 'franchise' so to speak, we need to build the team around him and optimise his playmaking.

I think Northern alluded to the workings of a 4-3-3 and iirc, that's where Pogba excelled on the left hand side of a midfield trio. Pogba clearly isn't disciplined enough to play as a holding mid and having two in there is kinda pointless, so he needs freedom to roam IMO. That doesn't mean he can entirely neglect defensive duties but I don't like the 4-2-3-1 for this team.

Going forward, I'd like our line up as follows

4-3-3: De Gea (GK); Valencia (RB), Bailly (CB), Smalling (CB), Shaw (LB); Herrera (RCM), Fellaini (CDM), Pogba (LCM); Rashford (RW), Martial (LW), Ibrahimovic (CF)

We played this formation second half except Herrera anchored and Fellaini and Pogba pushed up because we were throwing aerial balls and chasing. But starting a game with this formation and giving Herrera and Pogba the chance to push forward would be great.

Bench would still be powerful with Carrick, Rooney, Mkhi, Lingard, Fosu Mensah, Blind, Mata, Depay all available selections.

But 4-3-3 is a more flexible formation, allowing compactness when needed but also attacking fluidity.

That'll be perfect. Trying to force this ten thing is hurting our play. Ibra tends to do what Rooney does, and sometimes likes to grab the ball a little deep, and help develop play. Bailly can play from the back, so Blind isn't really needed. Hopefully he tries it out.

Trying to force a 10 is not the problem. Trying to force a 10 who's not a 10, 9, 8 or even a 6 is the problem.

oh shyt didnt know this thread existed..... I still think Rooney needs to be on the bench. Push Pogba further forward behind Ibra.. I see it as the issue Liverpool had with Gerrard. He wasnt discplined enough to be a holding midfielder. push him in behind the main striker.. limited defensive work

But when we have a guy we spent a fortune for, the best thing to do is to build around his strengths. As of today, are team is better suited for a 4-3-3
