I've seen this theory floated around and get that sense from some of my friends. I still find it a little weird that after being antagonized and trolled for three years by the monster in the WH, we're not seeing record turnout everywhere to at the bare minimum to send a message to him. Even taking into account the superstar Obama was, 500k increase in the population of NV + early voting for week + intense Trump hatred + GOTV campaign by Bernie should have made up for that difference.

you needed hatred from trump + him breaking something big. the general electorate doesn't keep up with regulatory changes (ie stuff he's doing to weaken environmental protections) nor the judicial system. i don't even think the impeachment moved the needle because the charges weren't as digestible (and salacious) as something like clinton's affair. they need something tangible to be broken in the form of the economy or war to really get people invested beyond "vote him out". i think most the hatred for him is because he's simply detestable human, but for many, it's not based on anything he's doing in the white house.

08 had Obama + a broken economy and spiraling war on terror, Obama definitely ignited things, but the economy and war were big sparks on their own

Warren isn't going to win a single state in this election. She's with in the margin of error in her home state(down 1% to Bernie in the latest poll. That might be the only state she has a chance at actually giving a "victory speech" Meanwhile Bernie will have a few to choose from on super Tuesday

Correct, people forget how many catastrophes happened during Bush and Obama ran as a populist who was criticizing Hillary for being on the board of Wal-Mart.

With 2008 you had a decade of Katrina, Iraq, and the housing bubble, and a bad job market. You also had the right wing cultural war being fought against. Trump has been an ass but most people haven’t felt the pain of his decisions. The strength of the economy is making people complacent (even though a recession is sure to come).

If Bernie comes right out and says he's gonna pay for it by taxing the rich and getting rid of all these bullshyt tax cuts for coporations and the rich, they will come for him early.
