It is in the same vein as Publicans shytting on any person pushing for policy to help poorer people by saying you are rich/elite.

I don't think Bernie is really in denial about Trump voters, it's more of an intentional political strategy.

He believes he can get more white voters (something Dems struggle with) by downplaying racial issues when possible.

Whether or not this is an effective strategy :yeshrug: I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Same thing Obama did by not focusing on race. Everyone is acting like HRC didn’t get killed for telling the truth when she called them deplorable.

Haha. Great strategy. I hear it from his cult members all of the time.

"88, how are we going to win the election if we don't cater to the white racist junkies that want to oppress you from Floverlandia that you've said you want to turn into mulch and repurpose their land as farms and national parks".

Bernie's base of apologists are actually reactionaries and haven't realized it.

This is all it is.

He has a better shot at being a unity canidate if he frames his fight through dismantling the institutions racists can enforce their bias and produce inequality. rather than charging the white populace as a whole of racism. It's uninspiring as black person but I get it. It sure as fukk isnt racist

Ill take the "we'll see" approach too, but I can say for certain approaches to handling racism DONT fukkING WORK.

Beto and Buttigeg style paying lip service/vaguely talking tough, woke pandering about fighting Institutional racism doesnt work

Warren's "black plans" Have given her no traction

Harris leaned into identity and identity politics and it backfired hard

Booker came in with the most overt pro black agenda and left with no black support

Hillary style classic black pandering tactics didnt energize black voters

This shyt doesnt fukking work, ill take revolution over pandering thank you very much

But that's the thing, she said exactly what Bernie did to the NYT. She didn't throw all of them under the bus...

Speaking at a fundraiser in New York City on Friday, Hillary Clinton said half of Donald Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables” characterized by “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic” views.

"I know there are only 60 days left to make our case — and don’t get complacent, don’t see the latest outrageous, offensive, inappropriate comment and think well he’s done this time. We are living in a volatile political environment. You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right?"

"The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people — now how 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive hateful mean-spirited rhetoric. Now, some of those folks — they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America. But the other basket — and I know this because I see friends from all over America here — I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas — as well as, you know, New York and California — but that other basket of people are people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they’re just desperate for change. It doesn’t really even matter where it comes from. They don’t buy everything he says, but he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won’t wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroine, feel like they’re in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well."

She said half of them. And she knows white people hate being called racist more than racism itself. So she backtracked but the damage was done. It didn’t just implicate them, it implicated anyone who was friends with them. She called a 4th of the country deplorable b. You know how that goes regardless of the fact that she was right.
