Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
so when does this movement actually go into action? why isn't the movement out there doing anything today? or does it only go into action if bernie becomes president? wouldn't people who are actually bout it have started a revolution under trump - the man who they're supposed to be so opposed to? :jbhmm:

A socialist being elected would be a revolution, would it not?

The action has taken form in organizations like Justice Democrats who helped elect people with the same values as Bernie. The Squad is an example. Bernie's campaign is training thousands of people how to organize and using their mailing list to support labor strikes that pop up. So on the one hand you have concrete action that's being built to form grassroots ability to enact change.

On the other electorally, the fact that this year's platform will comfortably be left of the 2016 platform is one I'd apply to the progressive movement too. That Warren and Bernie are top 3 right now signals a pretty strong shift left and if Bernie wins it would represent a transformation in the politics of the country with either one of them. Look at their environmental goals alone.

Cruella Deville and Mr. McKinsey are skipping MLK - King Day at the Dome in SC this weekend. Who the hell is advising Pete? What's his excuse considering he doesn't have to worry about the impeachment trial?

IDGAF about Pete but why is he expected to go to this one specific event in SC? I’m black and I lived in SC for half of my life and I don’t know wtf that is.

this doesn’t seem to match Bernie’s march in the streets rhetoric...I mean last major left social protest was occupy, seems that should be happening even bigger and more often given the rhetoric that comes from him.

And I can’t call a platform revolution until it wins and actions are taken. If Biden wins, then what? Where are these revolutionaries? Angry protesting on Twitter and reddit? If the majority of the dem caucus remains moderate, again, where does this leave the revolution?

1) he says he’s not a socialist so, according to him, that won’t be a possibility. But even if he wears the label, our government and economic system won’t be socialist
2) even if going by what others call some of these politicians, are we currently in a revolution because we elected a fascist?

well, they're long shots in the first place and aint getting the black vote...pick your battles :yeshrug:

I mean why do they attend the Iowa State Fair or the Iowa Steak Fry? There's no definite explanation, you're just kinda obligated to do it if you're a Dem candidate these days. Same thing goes for this event in SC. Obama/Clinton/Edwards all attended in '08, Clinton/Bernie attended in '16, all the other candidates are attending this year. It sounds like Klobuchar is trying to fit it in her schedule last minute but Pete is prioritizing events in Iowa instead.

If this were last year, it might be something, but Pete is DOA with black people and this won’t help him. I’d rather not force niceties from someone who has shown time and time again he doesn’t care about the black community. :yeshrug:

I know I'm beating a dead horse, because I always take the opportunity to bring her up in these conversations. But what you're getting at is covered pretty heavily by Rachel Bitcofer, the pollster who got the Blue Wave prediction almost exactly right prior to 2018 (and a couple of months ahead of any other pollster so she was way ahead of the norms). Her explanations of negative partisanship are really worth hearing out or reading. She's got a good interview on Majority Report from a while back and I think Salon did an interview with her a while back too. Essentially, by her theory, the independents that decide swing states aren't changing their minds from blue to red. But rather from "I need to go vote" to "I think I'll just stay home" and a big driving force for turnout can be negative partisanship which is to vote AGAINST someone rather than FOR someone. In a way oversimplified example, I'd point to how the incumbent party usually loses seats in midterms. Independents leaning toward the minority party have more urgency to turn up in those instances. But that's extremely oversimplified and I'd say to check out Bitcofer's actual words to get a better idea.

Side note: This absolutely co-signs what you're saying on turnout. And Bitcofer sees Latino outreach for "get out to vote" initiatives is an untapped resource Democrats should look to utilize more. It's also why I have some hopes that Bernie's targeting of younger generations that have historically been less reliable voters can turn into a successful strategy.
This article is a great read
She predicted the "blue wave" perfectly. So what about 2020?

If he's not even going to attempt to outreach with black voters then he's wasting his time and if he has any long-term ambition, he should probably just switch parties.

He’s been missing the mark on this all year, like I can’t even be mad. His record is there for us, I don’t want someone like him faking smiles and handshakes with us when the evidence shows he doesn’t care. Empty pandering is one of the worse things that’s happened to us during the half century we’ve propped up this party. I’m sorry, I can’t be upset like the black people of SC are actually missing out on something here.

His current run is big money + zuck + cnn. I don’t know he has any long term play in this party outside of maybe congress off the backs of white districts. He’s local official Pete for life :salute:

So you're looking for bernie/sanders supporters leading worker based movements outside of his bid(s) for the presidency?

California been on a march to $15/hr before Bernie was a thing, and there has been a march toward that path across the nation, and yes, Bernie has been a vocal supporter, as have many others, Climate change has been a popular cause prior to him as well, but Bernie invented this all as opposed to being a participant and guest
