Lol Democrats had Michael Bloomberg give a speech at the 2016 convention and he has years of actual documented harm against black people, ramped up efforts to surveil muslims and has made disparaging comments towards women. But hey he's a multi-billionaire who donates millions to them and basically owns half of the party so it's okay I guess. Hilary is literally on record saying the European center left needs to move to the right on immigration to become more electable. Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are on public record since 2016 saying they chased/are chasing white suburban voters in Pennsylvania and other parts of the country. These are likely not people who have some amazing social views but the Dems are still going after them. This is literally the argument pundits make on MSNBC/CNN all day for Joe Biden. they say he can win back white people in the MidWest who don't have "woke" social views.

The fact that Bernie can get support from people like Joe Rogan and also the black woman who created the term identity politics is more proof at how electable he is. I'll trust the guy who was a socialist during the Reagan era in the red state of Vermont

Obama had Rick Warren, a guy who openly was against gay marriage, deliver the invocation at his inauguration. Obama was able to bring in racists and rejected purity politics during his 2008 run to create a large coalition. It's why he won. He literally challenged identity politics at a South Carolina rally and stood by as his crowd chanted "Race doesn't matter" Racists for Obama?

The Democrats go after people who don't have great social views all the time and have cause actual harm on a systemic level. Save it lol

Bernie's whole political vision requires a more active political citizenry than we've seen in generations. The #NeverTrump ghouls and Joe Rogan voters are both a very unreliable faction of support for any progressive movement. If Bernie needs those Rogan voters to win, how the hell is he going to govern and follow through on his actual progressive policies when his political philosophy requires an active support base to mobilize for those policies. I feel the same way with any candidate who is trying to expand the coalition to moderate Republicans. It may be a successful strategy to get elected, but it seems like a useless strategy for actually governing.

I'm not very interested in discussing it further either, but I think someone with Bernie's political project - namely the reshaping of the Democratic coalition - deserves scrutiny for the types of people they're appealing to. Bernie isn't a run of the mill politician, he's trying to lead a movement. It has to do with governing because his whole governing philosophy is to marshall the coalition he's built to engage in unprecedented levels of civic activity so that he can be provided with the energy needed to enact these large scale changes he's proposing. He needs them to be abnormally committed to his political vision. So if he starts inviting in people who aren't actually committed to the whole progressive vision, just the parts that appeal to them, and they provide him with just enough numbers to barely win the election, that's a very soft coalition and a pretty fatal indictment on his theory of change.

I get that, and I was more or less neutral on him going on Fox News to do that townhall and going on Rogan's show and even boosting the endorsement, I just think going this route doesn't really bode well for his governing strategy.
