2022 NBA Finals on ABC is 5th least-watched series since 1988

Is there anything that can be done to increase viewership?

I'll give you a perfect example of a connection. MLS had a ratings increase last year and was the most popular they had been in years, yet they were asking networks for $300 million a year to only end up getting $250 million which they had to get by going the streaming service route.

In the case of the NBA, it should be noted that ESPN/TNT overpaid for the televisions during the last deal when no one else even came close to that amount, so the NBA benefitted from that aspect.

Now turn around to the upcoming negotiations where they are coming off a decline in ratings from their finals and the regular season. Not to mention the fact that they have an issue of "rest management" that Silver is trying to solve by doing the midseason tournament. Rumors have it that they want $75 billion this go around up from the $24 billion over the previous deal. They'll get a major bump during the next deal, but you better believe that those networks are going to bring up the ratings into the discussion and what the league is going to do about the "rest management" issue as you would be hesitant to fork over billions of dollars to air games where star players aren't playing which leads to sagging ratings.
You’re drawing a connection between TV ratings and negotiation of the next TV rights deal.

I’m asking for proof of correlation. Is there a high correlation between the League’s financial performance/popularity and TV ratings given the decline in ratings over the past decade?

Yes or no? If so, where is the proof?

With as much as you’ve asked that question today, you could have easily Googled the answer if you wanted to do so.

The NBA Finals was coming off a decline in ratings during the last television negotiations, yet the league got an increase as ESPN/TNT overpaid for the rights as I said previously. The NBA is going to bank on that situation happening again even with the decline in ratings and pointing to social media number isn't going to mask the fact that people aren't acting consuming the product like that. As I will say once again, the off the court aspect and offseason is more entertaining than what's happening on the court. If that isn't a good enough answer for you, then feel free to research it yourself.

I watch the NFL too, but their players don't got as much say so then NBA players, and they still don't get paid even close to the NBA players on a average comparison. Also while the NBA owners are all white expect MJ, they are more Intune with the players and fans then the NFL which don't want to upset their fanbases. Kaepernick will never play in the NFL ever again, while if he was in the NBA and Kneeled he would still be playing today.
Which player kneeled in the nba?

And only option people had to watch Jordan in the Finals was on TV, not a computer o phone. fukk you talm bout? :dahell:

there’s more tv’s in homes in the present than 1998 you slow ass nikka streaming & phones don’t even compare

World Series delivered a 21.8 rating and 40.0 million viewers on FOX Wednesday night, per Nielsen fast-nationals — up 58% in ratings and 70% in viewership from Giants/Royals in 2014 (13.7, 23.5M) and up 48% and 58%, respectively, from Rangers/Cardinals on a Friday night in 2011 (14.7, 25.4M), the two most-recent game sevens.

The Cubs’ title-clinching win, which peaked at a 27.1 and 49.9 million from 11:30-11:45 PM ET, ranks as the most-watched Major League Baseball game in a quarter-century, since Game 7 of the 1991 Braves/Twins World Series (50.3M). The previous high over that span was 39.1 million for Game 7 of Yankees/Diamondbacks in 2001. In ratings, it was the top MLB telecast since Game 7 1991

Cubs vs Indians game 7 was one of the highest rated & watched sporting events ever in 2016 the same year the cavs beat the warriors bu bu but smartphones shut up & Stop trying to cape like a groupie

So no, you don’t have an answer. Thanks.

TV ratings are an flawed metric when it comes to judging a sports league’s overall performance.
