2022 NBA Finals on ABC is 5th least-watched series since 1988

Is there anything that can be done to increase viewership?

Is this all platforms or solely traditional TV?

Exactly, unless you were already a fan to begin with I can’t see why a casual would feel any real need to watch. The NFL’s presentation in comparison makes you feel like something epic is going to happen.

Question…how much of that do you think has to do with ESPN having such a stronghold of coverage in the NBA compared to the NFL having CBS, Fox & NBC to lean on?

I second this question.

It seems like traditional TV given the part of the tweet saying 12.4 mil in this TV environment goes a lot further than 12.5 mil back in the day.
Didn’t read tweet thoroughly.

So more short players means more ratings

Nah what I'm saying is yall think the NBA is super popular and highly watched and think it should get 20 mil every year when in reality it aint that popular and the 20 mil plus years are basically outliers. Jordan got yall and the league confused on what it is. Think about all that went into Jordan he wasn't just nba backed he was mcdonalds backed, Nike backed, Gatorade backed, ended up being got dog on looney tunes backed:heh:
so he was bigger than the league and you couldn't escape him no matter what, everyone told you he's the hottest thing since sliced bread so people watched. He raised the endorsement game for all athletes, nikkas aint have to pitch malt liquor anymore and its great for players pockets but now all these guys have signature shoes, all these guys got McDonald's gatorade in their pocket and its been like that for 30 years now. The old saying nobody's special if everybody is special applies to the NBA and their marketing since they are a player driven league. Nobody has that "special" tune in factor, so it goes back to what it really is.

Also, Height discrimination does play a factor in the popularity of the game if you want me to get into it but thats day 2 of my arguments for my pending lawsuit against them so I aint really tryin to put that all out in the open :ehh:

Too many white people stopped watching after Jordan retired. Add in the fact that many of them also can’t stand LeBron. They’ll say it’s because he whines and jumped from team to team, but that’s not the main reason :mjpls:
Republicans and c00ns also buy sneakers

I think that’s only partial. The NFL having fewer games does add to the importance of it all. But their overall presentation and the way the game is discussed plays a part in it as well. Focus on teams is a helpful part of that.

When you think of the NBA, outside of championships and winning hot take battles what is there to get excited about for the average fan? Especially given the fact that unless you’re in that “next Jordan” tier you aren’t as valued. It just comes off real zero sum-ish. NFL allows players and teams to exist and excel within their own lanes whereas the NBA narrows things to maybe one or two lanes. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

So no, you don’t have an answer. Thanks.

TV ratings are an flawed metric when it comes to judging a sports league’s overall performance.

If that's the logic you want to go by, then TV ratings won't come into the discussion at all during TV negotiations. In fact, if those TV ratings didn't matter then Silver wouldn't be out here trying to get the mid-season tournament off the ground.
