2022 NBA Finals on ABC is 5th least-watched series since 1988

Is there anything that can be done to increase viewership?

Ratings in every league, besides the NFL has been on a decline....shyt even CFB playoffs are down 29%..

For example: the 1996 World Series got 31M viewers... the 2021 W.S. got 13.2

BASEBALL IS TRASH NOW
COMPARED TO THE 90S
SO I DONT GET YOUR POINT

NBA wise they are the 2nd most popular team nationally outside of the Lakers.
When? 1985? Lakers, Dubs, Heat, Knicks, have a way bigger national following. Only white folks you see that care for the Celtics that aren’t from Boston are the ones who still pine for the days of fundamental basketball and love the sound of Bill Waltons voice

TV as a whole is down across the board and it was like this before the pandemic. The pandemic accelerated how much content is consumed through streaming, internet, social media, etc. NFL is only programming on TV that hasn’t taken a hit during the pandemic. I think we have to accept that as a whole people aren’t watching TV like that anymore. Look at ShowBuzzDaily on a consistent basis and you will amazed on how low network TV numbers are compared to 10-20 years ago. These are ok numbers with this context in mind.

You can easily Google estimated national fanbases for each NBA team and estimated value breh.

Golden State is a recently successful team. Folks under 30 love them, but anyone over that doesn’t give a shyt about them outside the Bay.

Boston Celtics is like Norte Dame, Duke , etc if the NBA had an equivalent.

I had a long ass post on the previous page, but essentially yeah the TB shares are in line with the 2019 finals. That’s still not great though if you consider that one had a Canadian team (aka less US viewership). So for GSW and Boston to only put up those level of TV shares is a bit underwhelming.

The unknown
I hate when people use raw numbers like this. It literally says in the op that the NBA 12.5 is more valuable than previous 12.4 due to market share increases.

Where going to have a conversation one day that having a smaller number but bigger TV share is why the next TV deal is projected to be 75 billion vs it’s 27 billion currently

It's almost like nobody read the OP smh

"Game 6 ratings sank 30% from 2019 (10.7 to 7.5), but the share -- 21 -- was nearly even (a 22 in 2019).

What does that mean? With far fewer people watching TV, the game accounted for pretty much the same proportion of the (shrinking) audience as it did three years ago."
