Should illegal migrants be in the country?
They are criminals. You just want to give them a pass on the first law they broke.
If you mean by crossing the border without papers? That's a civil offense, not a felony.
How much crime is good?
None, but pretending we can police our way to zero crime is fantasy. You want safety? You fix housing, schools, healthcare and jobs.
Do you support defunding the police?
I supporting funding solutions that work. If that means shifting money from bloated polices budgets, to services that reduce crime at the room, then yeah. Call it what you want, the point is safety and not slogans.
Those are good laws. Whats the problem?
The problem is they target poverty, and not behavior. You get fined for sleeping in pubic, or locked up because you can't afford bail, not because your a threat.
Bail reform failed by giving too many repeat offenders too many chances to be released early and charges outright droppeda
Bad implementation failed. Reform didn't mean let everyone out forever, it meant stop locking up nonviolent folks because they are broke.
Should illegal migrants be in the country?
They are already here; working, paying taxes, raising families, and being exploited. The question is: Do we want this country that treats people with dignity, or one that scapegoats them while billionaires loot it blind?
Police are a backstop of institutional failure. So now you want to remove the backstop?
If police are the backstop, then it means everything else failed: housing, healthcare, jobs, education. So why are we pouring endless money into the backstop while letting the entire system rot?
