Being a geek =/= being smart. Being smart and intelligent is valued in our community and circles, just look at college attendance and graduation rates. You don’t have to be a geek to be extremely smart.

I agree that everyone has their own strengths. Those strengths usually revolve around what they find interesting though. So other things they may not appear as good at, in reality they probably weren’t that interested in so never took the time to develop said skill.

But please don’t underestimate the importance of encouragement and being uplifted. Most self doubt is instilled in us by others. Unfortunately for some, doubt just becomes a way of life.

I might start my own cryptocurrency. I’m positive I can figure it out if I put my mind to it, and commit the proper time and focus.

“geek” is primarily a social label and not necessarily indicative of high intelligence...given your example someone can be a movie “geek”...anime “geek”...computer “geek” but it’s not automatically synonymous with creativity/intelligence

Again, creativity and intelligence are not the same thing.

creativity is a natural talent you’re born with. It can’t be taught. You can only hone it. It is what makes a person wealthy, really fast.

to be great at something u have to be a geek with it. I use the word geek in the sense of one who is supremely dedicated to their art.

In the black community, if that art isn’t commonly regarded as esteemed, it is frowned upon. It’s a good reason there are very few recent inventors that are black.

u can be a movie geek where all u do is watch movies. As trivial as that activity may seem to you, the reality is if you spend enough time doing it, you learn a lot of things about how movies work. And u end up knowing things the casual movie watcher wouldn’t. And that knowledge can earn you a lot of rewards if u apply it where it’s needed.
