Things are way different these days than back then. Numbers don't tell the whole story. Society has changed and employment isn't the same. Jobs and cost of living were way different.

Yeah check this out back in the great depression they didn't have unemployment like we have now. Also they didn't have the FDIC at banks so when the market crashed people lost all their money. Think what would have happened in the streets if when the economy crashed in march everyones bank account went to zero....plus not having unemployment insurance.

Naw we got it way easier than our grandparents or great grandparents who had to go through the great depression.

This was a bubble waiting to burst. Decades of incompetent leadership. Gutted programs due to said leadership. Wages lagging woefully behind inflation. Zero financial literacy amongst most of the population. System being held together by low wage workers. COVID-19 was the perfect storm. I live in Portland and filed a claim wayyyy back on March 20th and still ain't seen no loot. People are calling the phone number and getting nothing but a busy signal, and this is even with auto redialer apps

maybe, just maybe the system is functioning just the way they intended it to

compare and contrast how fast people's UI claims are going through and being processed vs how quick people got those stimulus checks. There may be a bigger gambit at play here

Trump is delusional about the economy rebounding. It's over for the rest of the year. You don't go from 20% unemployment to a booming economy in a couple months. Small businesses' capital has been decimated. Restaurants, which employ a significant portion of the work force, are fukked. Things are BAD and will stay that way for awhile.

Politico had an article last week saying Florida's unemployment claims have been designed to reject people in order to inflate job numbers. It was largely done to prevent low income (and often black or brown) workers from getting money. Now that unemployment has spiked the claims aren't being processed and people are mad. It was designed to fail basically. They simply didn't imagine something like this happening.

Time for people to take a hard look at their leaders and what is being done. Florida is killing itself right now. Will the governor pay? Who knows.

At least here in San Diego, every store I go to is hiring. Target, Wal Mart, Supermarket, gas stations, there is opportunity to work.


Also, of those jobless, some are creating income without a specific company (Lyft/Uber, doordash, shypt, grub hub) etc.

Sounds like a classic straw man argument. The economy can't come back with a pandemic raging. Our economy is based on consumption, NOT on businesses being open. You can open all the businesses...spending with be down significantly because people don't want to get sick.

Anyone going to a restaurant next week if your governor says it's ok? Dental office? How many people will go back to the gym? Spending won't go back to normal as long as people are getting sick and testing capability is low due to this trash president.
