It's too late for me to vote, but I would have chosen Run-D.M.C. Here are some reasons why:

1. I'm 17 so both groups are before my time but when I heard Run-D.M.C. for the first time, it changed my life for good. I wouldn't have a single interest in hip hop or music in general had it not been for them. I never heard anything like that before. Listening to Run-D.M.C. was like a completely different world, and I don't know what kind of person I would be without them.

2. Their influence and impact on rap music is undeniable. They were the first rappers to really come from the streets and relate to people on the streets. They are freaking iconic and one of the reasons why hip hop became the genre it is now.

3. I like the Tribe and they have had some great records, but Run-D.M.C. stands out more to me because of their energy and chemistry. NOBODY in hip hop had or has the chemistry that Run and DMC had on the mic. They were never the best lyricists, but they were capable of shutting down any stage, any party every day of the week. They were harder than most rock bands at the time, they were in-your-face, and they wanted you to either give them respect or they would have to take it by force. Some rappers traded verses, but they were trading WORDS in a line. That's still incredible to me.

Plus, they have a great discography, especially during the Raising Hell period. Tougher Than Leather is still one of my favorite hip hop albums, and because of them, I have a deeper respect for other genres. It was all a domino effect that led to me to become the rap fan I am today.

So yeah, Run-D.M.C. and it's not even close. Long live the kings of rock.

:salute:
