The weekend of the announcement we see a 40% increase in shootings...

Anyone with sense knew there was going to be a lot of shootings. Everyone is outside and there's no cops around.

People are protesting the police so they fall all the way back. They've been letting fireworks go off for months disturbing the neighborhood. People have been putting in a record number of calls complaining but NYPD refused to respond. Then they allow violence to happen and that makes the law abiding people want more police presence.

In a recent television interview, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea even compared the city to an ocean liner bearing down on an iceberg and disaster unless the criminal justice system is fixed, although he wasn't specific.

They're using the crime for political gain. Y'all think cops are actually running around the hood doing these shootings?They don't have to lift a finger or get their hands dirty. They're taking action with inaction.

They did the same thing when stop and frisk was being threatened. They let crime happen and then weaponized the media because they know every act of violence in the hood makes the news. They had old people in the community doing interviews talking about they need to not only keep stop and frisk but do more of it.

People are unemployed, the virus had everyone cooped up, and inside, gang beef people's mental health was affected, add that to it just being summertime and you got a recipe for 41 shootings. I will say that shooting someone here takes real courage cuz each bullet is damn near another 5 years.

In order for that to be true, they have to be around. In some hoods you can spot an undercover cop from a mile away, let alone a uniformed one.

If you're attributing stuff to systemic issues, then you're right on a broader scale, but all the shyt that has been going down recently is a byproduct of police absence, not police trying to assist criminals. They can do bad by themselves.

They can commit crimes of conspiracy when there's a degree of separation. They not putting themselves on front street like that. Murder means they're on the block shooting. You think some white cops are walking around Flatbush and East New York in plain clothes unnoticed?

The reality is that these are already high crime areas with gang activity. They haven't been able to run around freely for months because of covid and now you have a holiday weekend, all the opps are outside, everyone's drinking/high, and there's not a cop in sight . Put 2 and 2 together.

Imagine the firestorm if off duty, plain clothes cops got caught on camera shooting people in the hood in this climate. They'd really get defunded and every high ranking official would be forced to resign. The easy play for them is to do nothing and let the violence rise so people are frightened into not trying to defund them and empowering them even more.

Fam, homicide in the 1970s was much worse than today. Yeah I agree with you there was an attempt at consciousness. The Black Panthers and other inner city groups could probably have made a big difference but we know what happened to them. I honestly think part of the reason the inner city is the way it is is in reaction to us trying to organize. We try to organize they panic. They are fine with us killing each other and dying of dope though.

Also gangsta rap started at the peak of crime around 1992. It has basically dropped since then. There is no causation but if you plotted the album sales of hip hop versus the homicide rate you would basically have a negative correlation from 1992 to 2010 when crime started going back up.
