analytics :dead:

whenever its iverson thread people either overrate him or underrate him with some analytics numbers. He was inefficient because that's how billy king built that sixers team. If kobe played for the sixers he would be ringless too. Using fukking efficieny to tell me that if eric fukking snow got few more assists from AI that shyt might have been better :dead: "He didn't carry nobodies he had a great roster in 2001", besides Dikembe (who was a complete black hole on offense) other teammates were forgettable. Mckie who somehow won 6th man of the year title he could defend and score but he would never average like 18 points per game unless the team tanked and gave him the green light to score.

Eric Snow was warming up the bench in Seattle before arriving to Philly. But somehow analytic geeks will say that holly shyt he had eric snow "if eric didnt play with AI he would have been a much better player".

When broke ass billy king tried to make some move, like trading for injury prone c-webb when c-webb had a sort of healthier season in 2005-06 AI's numbers got more efficient because he had a teammate who really required his opponents to play some defense on someone else besides AI, oh and Iggy was nice too. In fact in two seasons from 04 to 06 AI's advanced stats were better because he had a few decent teamamtes on offense.
exactly

To say 2001 Sixers was anything but a great team DEFENSIVELY is nonsense. shyt most of the players were only good when they played for that team.

Mutombo and Tyrone Hill were the most accomplished players on the rosters, but they were already 34 and 32 by the time they joined the team and known strictly for their defense, and rebounding.

Mackie was good player, and more of a relief for AI rather than a sidekick since they play the same position, but he wasn't nearly as good as AI haters make him out to be. Matter of fact, Mackie had the LOWEST SCORING AVERAGE (while playing 30 mpg) to win sixth man of the year award in the last 20 YEARS. He was no Manu, Terry or Jamal.

Snow went from averaging 2 ppg with the Sonics to being the Sixers starting pg and then back to 4 ppg with the Cavs. Geroge Lynch went from playing 15-20 mpg to the Sixers full time starting small forward. Raja Bell used to play at YMCA early 2001 for god sake!

As far as the level of competition in the Eastern conference in 2001, the Sixers are at least not as talented as the teams they beat in their way to the finals.

You are telling some half truths here and missing alot of context to these facts.

what gets me about this is how Iverson was putting these numbers up in Denver, and then a year later, after the Detroit fiasco, the media is pushing the narrative that Iverson is washed up and cant play anymore.

The issue with that Denver situation was that Iverson was a redundant scorer with Melo on the team....so of course the team would be better without the redundancy and a pass first guard in Chauncey.

the Chauncey team was different than the Iverson team.

Denver made more changes to that squad aside from the trade. and like you said in your next post, they played a different style.

Denver's problem wasn't redundant scoring from Iverson & melo. cuz there used to be like 6 other players putting up gawdy stats nightly as well.

Denver's problem is that they were sloppy on offense despite putting up hella points, and didn't care about defense, on the perimeter at least. and they had an old Anthony carter starting at point guard. plus, they used to piss a lot of games away with no f*cks given, which is why they ended up with bad draws in the playoffs, being the 8th seed but just 5 or 6 games out of the 2-spot in '08. and the west was a lot better those years than the Billups years.

Dude are wild man. I wasnt even the biggest AI fan, but of course he is gonna shoot a bad percentage and he was barely 6-0 and 170 pounds soaking wet all while being guarded by SG who were bigger and taller than him. And being the only shot maker on his team and the only creater.

Even in the finals after game 1 the Lakers put 6-7 Kobe Bryant on him for the rest of the series.

yep

posts like these should come as common sense, but yet they sound foreign to these analytical guys.

the problem with almost all Iverson detractors is that they never actually played the sport so they have no natural understanding of the game......which also falls in line with the reasons why a lot of these guys hate Iverson off the court. but i'll save that for another time.

Is he kobe level(top 10) of course not

Hes top 30, with Jerry west, Steve Nash , James harden. Hes not greatness because he isn't a champion. But he's a
Legend and no one can take that from him.

kobe aint top 10.

hes in that top 20 realm with Iverson & jerry west.

and i'll say Iverson is top if we're talking P4P.

Context? AI was fun to watch but he played like an idiot and couldn't coexist with anybody else who wanted the ball.

How great are you if you can't/won't make it work with other greats?

people keep repeating this narrative but can never post an example of such.

I mean, we're talking about a guy who co-existed with melo, jr smith & a handful of others all at once in Denver.
