Not entirely true. Matches for Main Event are mainly taped before Raw but sometimes they tape some before SD, like this Giulia vs B-Fab match. Main Event (mostly a re-cap show) airs on Peacock and YouTube, so those matches are meant to be viewed (televised). Yes they are meant to get the crowds going before the main show (Raw, SD) starts.

They do have some dark matches before Raw and SD as well. Like the last two SD they've had 2 dark matches with Hikuleo, the brother of Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa. Also WWE Speed matches are taped before a Raw, SD, or even NXT if need be.

I've always said this about past champions. People ask why so and so has a shot and to me if it's a past champion, it's just like boxing.. they always get more title shots regardless of the actual rankings.
