There's plenty of younger folks that could serve, but aint about to go risk getting their top blown off overseas over some bullshyt, just to come back to shytty VA benefits/treatment, and end up dead to some out of pocket local police officer that shoots them over some bullshyt on a traffic stop.

When you make access to health care and quality food an issue, you create a society of depressed unhealthy people. Look at how the average Canadian or French person is eating and their BMI and the difference is obvious. They prioritize health over profits, and you see it in the city design too. People walk more, breathe cleaner air, eat better food and access counselling, doctors, etc. as needed without having to pay an insurance company out the ass. The results speak for themselves with lifespan and incidences of chronic disease as well as average education level. Putting police out on the street and giving them quotas forces them to arrest people that they other wise wouldn't or else make up some bullshyt reason to incriminate a citizen and fill them private jails up.

This is to say nothing about the psychological Ls the government has taken as a result of pointless wars. You're asking people to risk their lives for a government that A. Doesn't give them the same rights or think they deserve a better quality of life than their European and Canadian counterparts.

Create the conditions for people to access quality food, reasonable portions, and health care and obesity will go down, moods will improve and people will be willing to fight to protect a standard of life that they see getting better. When you have politicians who want to privatize everything and refuse measures to grant workers more pay while giving tax cuts to their already rich bosses, how is that going to help the general public believe in America? Thats to say nothing about what is now public knowledge about how veterans are treated. Its as ridiculous as expecting black men to join the army to go fight people who have nothing to do with us. They didn't have any rebuttal when Muhammad ali asked why he should go to fight for a government that has failed to protect him and kill people that have never done him or wished his people any harm.

I see your point and I really do. Although I disagree with some. People don't sign up for the military for patriotic reasons. Meaning your overall statement of the government not caring for people. People usually sign up to pay for school, get job experience, or do it cause they don't know what to do. Still people can benefit from it a lot. As for as your statement about black men, it reminds me a lot of Laurence Fishburn's quote from Boyz in the Hood there is no place for a black man in a white mans military. There are olds head to took those lines literally and now realized opportunities they missed out on. Overall, I do see your point. Still, the issue of military recruiting if a reflection of America having problems addressing American issues.

In the old days, the fittest and strongest people were the working class folks, the farm kids etc. That's who they pulled out of the factories, mines and farms to go fight overseas.

Nowadays? The most healthy/fit kids are also the most affluent. Your average 22-year old 6 figs/6 certs college grad is (probably) healthier and in better shape than the 22 year old working at McDonald's. Why? Excellent medical care at their corporate job, gym memberships and sufficient PTO.

Basically....the people most in-shape and ready for military training are also the people least likely to want or need to go into the military. If I'm a 5'10" 170 lb software engineer making good money and hitting up Gold's Gym 5x/week, why would I sign up for daily hot azz 5-10 mile runs in Fort Jackson, SC?

Yes but we are mainly talking about fresh out of high school students not graduates. Finding able bodied people who don’t have a history of mental issues or moral issues that are able to change.

Military docs at MEPS don't give a fukk about your civilian counselor. Your recruiter doesn't determine if you need a medical waiver or not, nor are they the agency that writes them: if them MEPCON docs think you're not worth it, they won't bother and your unrealistic dream of enlisting as an oldhead ends there.


They'll make their own diagnoses for everything you have going on that they can find and will ask for supporting documentation if they feel it's necessary.

Anything that they find out after the fact that they allege you withheld can be used against you as evidence of a fraudulent enlistment, which violates the UCMJ and can see you kicked out the military and even sent to prison (aka confinement).

thats awesome news man. Remember the military is only one of many options. Nothing wrong with Voc Rehab. also look into your states Apprenticeship programs as well.

@Marc Spector what types of jobs should I tell Voc. rehab I am interested in? I want the best paying jobs I would be eligible for and that I could do good in. Since I have social anxiety that counts as a disability in order for me to be eligible to work with them.
