Me and my friends in our group chat came to the conclusion that if what Woja says is true, Hinkie is getting fukked by Okafor and Embiid's immaturity (and the bad luck of not having lottery balls go his way.....lottery balls go his way he has Wiggins, KAT with Saric waiting in the cut and Noel in the bag)

There really isn't much he could have done differently. If he doesn't trade Jrue, Evan Turner & Thad the Sixers still suck, just a little less.

At the end of the day there's a human element to this and people are gonna be people. Maybe he could have drafted Smart, Exum or Randle....Maybe he could have kept Peyton and not trade for Saric. I don't know if any of those guys change anything.

I'm okay with his process, things just haven't worked out.
And that's the bottom line breh:yeshrug:

Here's my problem with this line of thinking:

He was tanking for Towns even though Okafor was considered to be the top pick for much of the season? He was tanking for Wiggins even though Embiid and Parker were thought to be every bit as good as Wiggins? It's hard to ride with that line of thinking when an argument could be made that he landed guys he coulda been tanking for. Is it about landing guys you like or is it about just having the #1 pick?

They weren't tanking for specific players.....They're tanking to put themselves in position to land a franchise player. That could be anyone.

They wanted Russell but the Lakers took him first. The thing I didn't understand at first was that they didn't do everything in their power to get Russell considering Russ was their guy but it's clear thats the antithesis of their plan. Their plan is to acquire enough assets, picks, etc to acquire a superstar by any means and not mortgage the future.

Embiid hasn't played so we've never gotten to see what he could become. If Embiid doesn't get hurt (or rather his medical report wasn't so bad) Cleveland drafts Embiid, Milwaukee drafts Parker and they end up with Wiggins

Okafor was drafted because he was believed to be the best available on the board (he could be sold for a great asset if it doesn't work out, if Embiid doesn't play it was believed he could become a star....though it's clear now Okafor isn't very good)

If they were tanking for Russell all along, then that's a big problem (they should be a lock to get Dunn though so they should be OK)

Don't write off Okafor yet though. What I will say is that the Noel /Okafor fit hasn't been ideal so far (but that's also because Noel has regressed)

Yeah I think there may be a problem with Hinkie's evaluation of talent......but it's clear his asset acquiring skills are second to none.

They said all summer Russell was their guy and if he was there at 3 they were taking him.

Okafor just isn't it. He's Al Jefferson, Greg Monroe.......Great post scorer but he simply can't play defense. It was the knock on him coming out of college but from the 76ers games I've watched and his on/off numbers it's clear you aren't going to win many games with him on the floor.

I'd hold off on writing Okafor off. Let me see what he brings when they're done with tank mode and a few responsible vets are on that team to help the kids out. The Sixers are a AAU- D League team right now
I'm not writing Okafor off (he has been as advertised). But you can make the argument he didn't lead at Duke, so it's not a surprise he may not lead at the next level.

Okafor ain't even a watered down Al Jefferon. Al Jefferson can hit his free throws.

It Guarantees you the best players available, and thas the only way your winning the chip :manny:

I dont root for my team to be a treadmill, if your not a free agent destination then you either gotta get lucky(sorta like my mavs did) or get a star :yeshrug:

Hell we tanked for dirk :yeshrug:

The draft lottery makes tanking mostly useless

At some point the Tanking has to stop. It's not like it's some full proof way to the top. People always point to the Thunder, but they had a lot of things go their way on top of picking good players.

Think about it, they snatch a generational talent in Durant. Yet his impact as a rookie is minimal, maybe because they play in loaded west. So they reup on a top 5 pick in Russy, who again may be a generational talent. He doesn't come out blazing, so they reup on yet another top 5 pickup in Harden. I just don't see another team coming up like that :manny:
