I wonder where rap would be if the south was more embraced back then than it is now.. Rappers from the south in the 90’s were miles ahead of the rappers that benefited after the south blew up. New York wasn’t fukking with the south like that back then of course but now are out here rapping on trap beats smh.

hip-hop as a whole has been dumbed down, and they flooded the market with the remedial south rappers a decade later in order to drain the brains out of the culture.

as for that era of the south, they didn't really have any jams outside of the booty-music acts, who sort of resided in their own realm and didn't really pose as rappers, so they did no harm. the 69 boyz used to have like 4 bars per song. they weren't bothering anybody.​

Yeah, there was an actual "Player's Ball", but they could have very well named it after a Coolio's "Fantastic Voyage". In fact, it was pointed out that Kast were "Special guests". They were there to perform.

They gained traction around Atliens-Aquemini in the hip-hop community, then the mainstream with Stankonia.

Explain how you have an album go platinum and 2 top 10 songs on the hip hop charts and say they didnt have traction in the hip hop community. Players Ball was actually a more popular hip hop record than both Atliens and Jazze Belle.

Nobody's disputing that Kast had a hit as big as "Tootsee Roll", but again posting that is misleading. That song was bigger than songs that most rappers in attendance of the show had out at the time. That song was big, but the group itself not so much. Most rappers don't have songs as big as "Laffy Taffy".
