Let me preface by saying that Trump has a history of racist and xenophobic words and actions. His campaign was riddled with dog whistle politics. I am not arguing against this. It isn't up to debate in my opinion.

But you are naive if you think that is why he won. It is about the middle class white worker in key states and Hillary being a shyt candidate. The same middle class workers that Obama carried TWICE in certain areas.

Facts of the matter:

1) Racists would have voted for any Republican ticket regardless. Do any of you believe otherwise?

2) Trump got LESS votes than Romney and might have an Electoral landslide because he went after the Rust belt workers who suffered the most from globalist trade policies.

3) As said before, Trump gained white Voters that went for Obama the last 2 times.

4) Clinton only got ~51% of the union vote.

5) Trump actually made gains on minority voting when compared to Romney. Minorities didn't show up for Clinton in the numbers she needed in several key urban areas.

I'm sorry, but no. The reason Trump won was 'cism. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

It's true that racists would be likely to vote Republican anyway, but Trump got racists out that don't usually vote. The reason I can say this is because there's pretty much no other reason to vote Trump. It's not like people were voting for Trump because of his policy initiatives or political experience. There's no way you're convincing me that his excellent and well thought out trade policy was his main draw. :martin:

And him doing slightly better with minorities than Romney isn't say much considering how abysmal Romney's numbers were.

I'd believe it if Trump had an actual record and plan that aligned with these blue collar workers. Also, Obama preceded BLM and all of the recent immigration scares from Mexico and Syria. These factors have sent insecurity levels through the roof amongst white men, so I'm not sure the racial climate is the same as it was a few years ago when Obama got elected.

Racists vote Republican anyway. The rest of your comment makes no sense. He cultivates the white racist vote...and ended up with less votes than Romney but better performance with minorities

I don't get it.

He won because of the rust belt who voted for Obama twice.

He articulated a protectionist neo-merchantilist economic policy that resonated with alot of white blue collar voters. Other members of the GOP would never spout such a policy because they believe on some level international free trade, Trump basically said screw neo-classical economics, a GOP openly touting tariffs is something I never thought I would see. Mainstream right leaning economists have been losing influence in the GOP for years now, and this may have been the final nail in the coffin. I don't think neo-merchantilism can work but I can't deny that shyt sounds VERY GOOD when the perception is that global trade is to blame for so many problems.

As I said in the "bring the jobs back" thread a great deal of middle class white people who were used to making 80k-100k without a college degree will likely never make that again, but for many white people losing these jobs dosent allow them to moral grandstand and overstate their "grit and grind" in obtaining their success. With this win they feel like they get a chance to retain their ego, masculinity, and status in their respective communities.

believe a man with no political background, policies, or ideas who ran a race tapping into the country's history of embedded racism, didnt win because of racism, brehs

Racists vote Republican anyway.

Something else had to tip him over.

Trump mobilized racists and brought out racists that don't usually vote. That's really what it comes down to. :yeshrug:

Are you really telling me Trump has some sort of insightful trade policy that's inspiring voters? :comeon:
