People say this like trade school isn’t expensive. There ain’t no “most circumstances” about it. Most people aren’t built to work a trade. Let people do what they want and make it affordable. Simple as that. Makes more sense than trying to push people into professions they have no passion for and won’t be good at. Some things will pay more than others, oh well. Let people make that choice too.

FYI, in most places in America, the top 20 percent highest warning people are college educated.

People who do professions for the money and not the QUALITY of SERVICE, is ruining society. Last thing You want, is a corrupt lawyer or doctor killing/ruining people lives because he didnt get enough money to buy his 4th Porsche.

What suggests to you that colleges can just "lower the prices"?

I don't have a deep enough knowledge of the financial statements for non-profit colleges. Do you?

Correct.

Stop letting the banks dictate your pricing.

Get rid of college Administrators that Jack up tuition pricing.

Get rid of anyone in financial aid that enables this corruption.

Hate to say this, but VIOLENCE may be needed to move the needle against this.

@NinoBrown

Why are STEM majors, including posters in this thread, are buried in debt? I thought they should be balling? Why are they paying back loans 10+ years after graduation?
What is buried in debt? What is an acceptable and unacceptable DTI for you?

It took me and others awhile to pay off our student loans, but I don't know of anyone in the age range I graduated with that regrets getting their degree 10 after undergrad. None.

People becoming anti-education is sickening. :scust:

Got people thinking "Oh, you can just make it your own way. Join a trade. Learn to code" when their bosses have gone to 2 and 4 year schools.

Statistically there's nothing to show right now that your financial situation is better off without higher education especially for black people. We need the credibility boost more than anyone else.

I understand both points of view. You are better off with an education than not. But these schools cost an insane amount just to attend. I just think we should all make pointed decisions on what we want to go to school for (which is what we should be doing all along) because college costs too much to be messing around and getting a degree you do nothing with, or worse, toil around in college for 5-6 years never getting a degree.

Agree with the bolded, its not a one size fits all.

The bigger issue is that young men arent receiving good advice, at all. There is no wisdom to depend on for most young men.

I have three younger cousins with the same parents who washed out of school, not for their lack of ability, but because they got shytty/no advice from their folks on what direction they should pursue in school

The lack of wise secure older men to drop invaluable knowledge to the younger generation is a serious problem

You don't even want to know how many young brehs I come across on a regular basis who tell me they had no idea a trade/vocational school even exists. :snoop:

shyt isn't talked about or pushed anymore in schools because the system is DESIGNED to keep people in debt no matter how much money they make and a trade is one of the few ways to buck the debt slavery system this country has implemented and make your own way. I make just as much as most high earning college graduates with NONE of the debt to go along with it. I also probably have a better retirement than most of those college grads too. Like I said I don't regret not going to a 4 year school AT ALL.

Now That is a lie. We got 2 posters in here saying that they still paying off loans with good paying careers, and you say that is not true?

People with 50k and above in debt is unacceptable.

America should get All undergrad education for FREE.

Again, you're going to have to show me evidence that these school can just "lower tuition". I think its a good bit more complicated than that.

However you get paid money while working. You also don't incur a bunch of debt. Many survey companies include the starter salary as a electrician. You can be union or an independent contractor. It's also not hard to start your own business when you become a licensed trade.

Bro I am an electrician dog, who came up independent and then organized into a union when they called me to recruit me. There is nothing you can tell me about this that I don't know. You said learn a trade and then learn another one, and I'm telling you if it was that easy EVERYONE out here would do it. I know a lot about plumbing yes because my grandad and uncle were master plumbers(my dad knows just as much about plumbing as they do even though he never got licensed because he didn't want to do it for a living), it isn't that easy to just do that. I've been a n electrician close to 10 years now and I'm just now going to get my HVAC cert from a two year community college.

College isn’t useless at all. It’s very much worth it, especially when you’re Black. It’s one of the most efficient vehicles for us to achieve social mobility. Me and a lot my nikkas graduated and immediately started making more money than our parents.

Most people who are super critical of college either don’t have a degree, or they didn’t do what they were supposed to do. They don’t tell you that there’s a ‘right’ way to do things. Folks go to some expensive private school with no scholarship and/or major in whatever with no plan. :francis:

You can’t major in some bullshyt with no plan. Even if you’re STEM, did you do an internship? What’s the job market like in your city? Did you do any projects?

Having a plan is more important than what your major is. You need to have an idea of what you’re gon do when you get out, especially if you not in something like Engineering. Networking is prolly the most important part of college. You’re paying for those opportunities and connections. If you intern and network, you’ll get a good job no matter what your major is.

The real problem with college is that the ridiculous cost combined with student loans make it predatory :francis: Teenagers generally aren’t mature or wise enough to make the best decisions financially. There ain’t any other situation someone with no money would be able to take out so much money with loans, but the government just lets this student loan shyt fly.
:francis: Then on top of that you’re forced to pay to take irrelevant classes
