I added a edit to my comment but yes yhats the case. Alot of AF officers (myself included) are in operations career fields like flying ops, c2, Cyber Ops, Intel, Special Tactics, and Space. The AF already puts a premium on being technically proficient as a Operator so you wind up with officers who are damn good operators but not as good of mgrs/leaders
Those guys would be warrants in the Army.

I remember one time in Iraq we had this CW4 (the highest you can go as a warrant is CW5) he was supposed to be supervising me and this other dude. We got into a heated argument and forgot about the equipment The Warrant completely ignored us and did the job himself when he was supposed to be coaching us, He didn't a fukk that we almost came to blows and we of couse were both armed. I think we would've fought but the Chief announced he was done and we were embrassed.

Good technical support poor leadership or maybe he just figured it was two nikkas arguing and it didn't matter (we were all Black Men)

A trap based on what exactly?
I can only guess that people think this way because from college to career there's no defined path. People want to be hand held or they get lost real quick. Whereas with vocations or trades, it's a little more defined. I say every time with college, ask yourself what you wanna be when you grow up and then work backwards from there. Wanna be a lawyer? Gotta pass the bar. How are you gonna pass the bar? Gotta go to law school. How do you get to law school? Need to pass the LSAT and have some sort of undergrad degree. What undergrad degree? Philosophy, Pre Law, Political Science, etc. Now you know the major beats, you can fill in the blanks. It's not easy by any means, but it's also not complicated.

Actually i was told in college that CIS wasn't a good a major. I don't remember exactly why, but i think it was something like people prefer Computer Science major over them because they have too heavy a business curriculum. or it was sort of a hybrid major and alot of people that do the hiring don't actually know what specifically they bring to the table over other majors. Some see it as sign you couldn't hack it in a more traditional major like CS, Physics, Math, EE, etc

don't trust online job statistics by major either, those number don't usually take into account it they found a job in their field. If you working at planet fitness with your degree that gets added to the tally.

Back when you were in college it probably wasn't :mjlol:

["Young men get little help, in part, because schools are focused on encouraging historically underrepresented students. Jerlando Jackson, department chair, Education Leadership and Policy Analysis, at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Education, said few campuses have been willing to spend limited funds on male underachievement that would also benefit white men, risking criticism for assisting those who have historically held the biggest educational advantages.

“As a country, we don’t have the tools yet to help white men who find themselves needing help,” Dr. Jackson said. “To be in a time when there are groups of white men that are falling through the cracks, it’s hard.”]

Well there it is...young white men are struggling out here now because the country only cares about minority men's progress now. They specifically are being left behind. Got it.

Anyway, the way I see it, everybody has a role to play out here. Everybody can't be a doctor/lawyer/engineer...but everybody can't be a mechanic/plumber/barber either. Figuring that out is hard for most and yeah it’s harder when you're spending a shyt ton of money in the process. So giving kids the idea that you NEED to go to college ain't the move because if you're going to go, it needs to be for something that's going to actually benefit you. Otherwise, it's an ridiculously expensive waste of time so it’s definitely not the answer that’s been sold to everybody for decades.

But on the flip, this blanket anti-intellectualism that's been running around in this country everywhere this last decade, man... One dude in the article quit after a few weeks of struggling. That's not even trying. I get it, college not for everybody, I flunked out of school my first year (STEM). Point blank, I quit, I was lazy. I had to grow up and figured out that what I was doing wasn't going to work either, to force myself to go back and finish. I hated every minute of it but I hated being broke more.

But if anybody thinks abandoning education as a serious option is going to be a positive for us when the majority of the US' doctors and engineers etc are Asian immigrants (if that’s not the case already)... :francis:
OK. This country doesn't care about Black men either so what's happening?

Going to college does not mean you are educated.
Lol how are you not educated by going to college:heh:

I mean yeah, there's definitely some not so bright people who received degrees.
Just like there's plenty of borderline geniuses that have never stepped foot in college and are self educated in philosophy, economics or whatever.

But generally speaking, the folks that don't go to college are too busy working and grinding to educate themselves on certain topics that an institution would require you to learn as part of your common core classes.

In other Words there are classes that you take in college that might not give you any hard skill, but they teach you to critically think.

The more I hear about shyt like this the more I'm glad I went to the military. 95% of my tuition was paid and I got paid on top of that monthly. I know folks got justified hangups about the military but it's a valuable resource for those getting out of high school and are a bit lost on what steps to take after graduation.

While this is true what is also true is there is a desperate need for Black professionals in many fields that require education. From medicine to law to tech. We are already under represented and we don't have the LUXURY of feeling like school isn't for us.

For us to make our mark in this modern world education is essential. Otherwise we will keep being at the mercy of others. It's simple math.

When we are not present in these spaces other people are making decisions for us and not in good faith.

This.

Men skipping school are NOT doing it because of some advanced level of wisdom.

They are overstimulated with video games and cell phones and barely finish high school on their feet. They aren't prepared for college and aren't motivated...preferring to find an easy way out.

Some guys are just mechanically inclined and have a great mind for the trades. Those brehs should become welders, electricians etc.

Most people aren't skipping college because they want to be an electrician.

True, but trades are mostly blue collar that is taxing on your body. Those comfortable white-collar jobs are a fable to most men; an illiusion, almost.

Most offices have a majority workforce of women in it today. This isn't 1985 anymore.

My company is 75% female....management is 80% female, though the CEO is male.

Definitely seeing more and more women, even among the new hires.

Mane I've gone through all the emotions regarding college:
"it's the place to be!"
"it's a scam!"
"damn it worked out for me!"
"damn I should've done more"

But I think the college and education system at it's core and how we approach it is all fukked up. You're forcing 17-18 yr olds who dont know shyt about life to make life altering decisions that cost mid 5 figures-6 figures and we emphasize your major being something you should pursue as a career instead of something you're simply studying. It's less focus on education/skills and more on grades

I have two degrees, one from an HBCU and one from a private white school with major athletics. I done learned college won't be shyt for you if you don't take advantage of the offerings. I tapped in with alumni before undergrad, I had a few internships (shoulda had more) and got involved in extracurricular groups, etc. If you think just walking thru college with good grades shyt might not work out for ya post college.

I know it's a lot more nuanced for a lot of people. But I definitely had hella help along the way and maximized opportunities
