I can speak on this given that they are talking about my alma mater, the issue is that in particular white men are just falling behind due to competition. When I was at the school if you removed sports from the college the number of both white and black students would have substantially lower the population of those groups.

U can’t get into college if you don’t have the grades and won’t want to go if you hate school. The public school system the way it’s set up is fukking ass high school is torture to young boys.

When I was working with second chance juveniles they didn’t want to hear about an extra 4, 5 years of school and added rigor. I had to sell these nikkas on frats, parties, bytches, campus amenities, more relaxed schedule, concentrated study, getting away from the hood, and long term earning potential.

I mean yeah, there's definitely some not so bright people who received degrees.
Just like there's plenty of borderline geniuses that have never stepped foot in college and are self educated in philosophy, economics or whatever.

But generally speaking, the folks that don't go to college are too busy working and grinding to educate themselves on certain topics that an institution would require you to learn as part of your common core classes.

In other Words there are classes that you take in college that might not give you any hard skill, but they teach you to critically think.

Receiving a(n) (good) education is independent of going to college. Plenty of people do go to college and don't learn much. They can recite textbook knowledge and pass exams, but they can not think nor can they create.

They went to school, they learned some things but they are not truly educated. If they come out with critical thinking skills then I agree with you, but let's not pretend that colleges these days by and large are interested in promoting that.

As to the bolded - I don't agree. Working and grinding doesn't mean you do not have time to learn the basic nonsense taught in common core classes. Education starts with the self. If you want to learn, you will. No excuses. The basic common core classes are things a high schooler can do. Let's stop pretending college is some magical education gate that can't be replaced by going through Youtube, Quora, and Medium for most of the non-practical majors.

On the second part, I would agree that more government involvement seems like the easiest path to reducing tuition costs.

Government loans are why tuition costs are so high. When you subsidize a service, the provider raises prices because they have a guaranteed price floor.
If you want to lower education costs, you increase competition and get government out of the loan business. This is actually happening now with the rise of online schooling and certification programs.

Part of the arguments regarding college now and why people are waking up is the cheaper cost of the aforementioned. We see how bullshyt administrative costs are used to justify high tuition prices for brick and mortar campuses. So, just go to a cheap online school, learning platform, or use free resources and get the degree/cert for a fraction of the cost in terms of time and money.

You’re 100% correct that women historically went to college to get their Mrs. Degree. Guys opting out of college might as well be opting out of marriage to a majority of women. Especially Asian and White women who target high earners early.
