"Look how well they solved their homeless problem"

Yeah they made them "disappear" :unimpressed:
We in the U.S. keep a larger portion of our population housed in prisons than any other country on the planet.
If our incarceration rate was the same as Singapore, we’d be 2/3s of the way toward prison abolition :mjlol:
exactly…. A lot of Asians can’t even do something as simple as having the amount of kids they want to have with there partner. shyts crazy
Where?
Americans and Westerners as a whole love talking down on some of these societies. Calling them archaic blah blah.

One thing I’ve come to realize in America is that the average person doesn’t know or refuses to behave themselves in a society to a degree that is good for the rest of society. Things like littering, drug use, small government so I can do whatever I want etc…these are things that need tougher stances from a ruling authority. America is a rebellious society at baseline so we look at these things as abnormal or unfair but Singapore governs in a way that works for them and if you break the rules you know what will happen.
Singapore has plenty of internal problems as well regarding their criminal justice system :yeshrug:
Just because they’ve done a great job on certain issues like housing and education, doesn’t mean they don’t have issues in other areas :picard:
They haven’t reached some fantasy equilibrium

I’m deeply familiar with Singaporean politics and governance breh, I didn’t say anything about perfect. Their harsh drug laws are not above criticism. Especially with the People’s Action Party presently in power and attempting to push the government in a rightward direction.

I heard about it that war, but what does weed have to do with opium?
I think that was the catalyst for asians being hard on weed and drugs in particular. They view it as something detrimental to their society. THE Opium wars are a main reason for this I believe.

Asians ain't tryna hear all that

"Weed is natural and safe" shyt

:pachaha:

Jackie Chan was ready to disown his son when he got caught with weed. shyt had the potential to ruin Jackie Chan life and career over there.

You’re replying to me as if I’ve challenged your beliefs and understanding . I have done no such thing. I just made a simple comment giving my views on things

people be like oh they solved homelessness and the streets are so clean

but then on the flip side they have this type of law system that is archaic and heavy handed.

beware of any society that lets people rule with an iron fist

Asian nations might be developed on the surface but they lag behind when it comes to human rights and freedoms. wouldn't trade that up for some clean streets
Weed :hula: No homelessness

U would choose a society where you have the civil liberty of smoking weed (which is pretty much a pointless habit) to a society without homelessness :mjlol:
nobody is homeless over smoking weed. you are trying hard tho. eliminating weed will not solve homelessness

Zero tolerance policy is taken in a lot of Asian cultures when it comes to drugs. They are very much collectivist culturally. This translates to a lot of political and social thought being in the context of how the individuals actions affect the whole.

This is opposite to how Americans think . For example, when we think of drug use, we view it as the harm it causes to the individual or even atomize it to the individual further by saying that what I do to myself is no one else's business. In Asian culture, if the individual is not conforming then he is hurting the whole body. A crime against the individual in this context is a crime against the whole body of society. It's viewed as corrupting the whole of society when things they view as destructive is done by one individual.

Interesting...

Don't agree with their stance/thought/perspective, but it is their law and custom...
