I think A-Trak was saying that IYRTITL reminds him of Hell On Earth, not WATTBA. He kind of shyt on WATTBA. Metro Boomin doesn't sound anything like '96-era Havoc.

I skimmed WATTBA. I'm yet to hear IYRTITL so I can't comment on it sounding like some Mobb Deep shyt.

WATTBA sounds like a Future project with Drake adopting it, but let’s not forget that If You’re Reading This sounded like nothing else. Drake and his team created a sound with that album. It reminded me of Mobb Deep’s Hell on Earth—banging drums, thin, spooky samples and gritty raps. A lot of songs with no real clear hooks. That’s not where the climate was at the moment, so he had a pivot with that.

Metro Boomin is the biggest producer of the year. Rap needed a new producer that had star power in the way that we had Pharrell and Ye and Swizz. A lot of the new producers were just kids on their PC at home using FL Studio and making beats that made their way to big rappers.

Is "it" WATTBA or IYRTITL?

Having said that, dude did an entire interview, talked about Drake multiple times, Drake vs Meek specifically....and didn't say jack shyt about Drake not writing his own lyrics.

that dark cinematic sound that was kinda popular in 90s hip hop was mostly the result of RZA. and Havoc. I'm not saying it's a 1-1 translation but most of the new cats going after that sound have some RZA/Hav in them. It's kinda impossible for them to not have it.

I realize Metro didn't produce the entire beat but clearly they benefited from his input.

Speaking of Metro Boomin, you know what I find funny? I'm gonna blow my own trumpet here, but I told nikkas FROM TIME that Metro Boomin was the only trap producer making anything here and there.

We've had threads upon threads here on the Coli asking the trap lovers to name who's really great with receipts and they'll just toss out a bunch of names and random tracks. Zaytoven, Southside, Lex Luger, Mike Will, Shawty Redd, Sonny Digital, Young Chop, London on the track, etc. Metro Boomin is clearly on a different level than those guys. After him, I'd say Mike Will (Young Chop and London on a tier below, then the rest below them).
