This is simple. There are way too many games available to watch. It waters down the need to watch the nationally televised games. That's the reason football will always be popular (and even they are getting greedy with these Thursday night games), because you basically have one day a week to watch that sport and one game on Monday.

Right now, here's the NBA weekly schedule:
All The Time: Your local team on whatever local sports channel.
Monday: NBA on TNT
Tuesday: nothing
Wednesday: NBA on ESPN
Thursday: NBA on TNT
Friday: NBA on ESPN
Saturday: NBA on ABC
Sunday: NBA on ABC

Who's watching all that and I love the NBA. But I have a life. That's way too much, of course your ratings are going to be down.

The matchups just haven't been that compelling :yeshrug: The game threads don't even do numbers and we have more than a passing interest in the games. Barring some complete fukkery, the finals is most likely going to be Cavs vs Warriors/Spurs. Not really any point in watching the games when you already know the outcome.

That doesn't make sense. It's not like it's the same game with the same teams every night. The games on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday have nothing to do with the games on Saturday and Sunday (which is what these numbers are about). You put stars and compelling action on i.e. stop throwing big markets/historical powers out there that currently have neither and be more considerate of the squads you want to feature with the your scheduling and you will have matchups that people will want to watch.

I thought the televised weekday, and Saturday match ups were pretty good this year....there were a lot of Spurs and Warriors Vs whoever (cavs, celts thunder etc) games. :manny:...I enjoyed it more than I have in the past few years

What I think kinda sucks are the Sunday line ups. I've probably skipped 90% of Sundays match ups this year.

They need a consistent schedule on Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes I look for basketball on the weekends on ABC and to many times they aren't showing games. If it was like football and you knew when games were coming on you'd probably get more viewers.
