About 90% of the population has no REAL hobbies outside of their jobs. If you're wondering why you feel unhappy and unfulfilled, this is why.

I don't necessarily think it's people not having hobbies, it's not having the time or money to do them. Most people veg out to TV, social media, or they drink/smoke, sometimes in combination with each other. Those take minimal effort to do at the end of the day. Kinda sad actually.

I have/had a ton of hobbies, but in the last 7-8 years the only time I have time for my hobbies is when I'm neglecting other pressing shyt.

90% is definitely pulled out the ass, but a lot of people just don't have time or if they have time, they don't have the money.
If you have time to binge tv shows, you have time. I do think money is a biggest part of it, but at the same time cutting out bad habits can free up some money.

ATL, but rasied in DMV
When it's all said in done, the Most High isn't going to care whether or not you found a hobby. If you have a passion for a hobby, then go ahead and enjoy that hobby, or hobbies. But don't get into the mindset of judging others on how they spend their personal time, or on whether or not they have hobbies. People who do that, kinda expose themselves.

A lot of people really ain't that great at any one thing.

110,000,000,000 people have been on this planet. A few hundred, maybe at most a thousand are remembered household names.

I got a shytload of hobbies myself that I still do everyday:
Video games
Making music (DAW, I play piano and some bass as well)
Play basketball (mainly shooting around in the gym at this point - it's like my golf range)
etc.

shyt, even my job is like a hobby (software engineer).
I love learning about new things regarding math/science.
I'm also religious/spiritual.

Yet I still felt unfulfilled (and sometimes till do). I'm not scatterbrained either: I love each of these things and I try and pursue them deeply.

Truthfully though, I really feel best when I'm around family and loved ones.

I think a big part of feeling fulfilled is basically acceptance and self-love. A lot of folks can feel fulfilled and not have a single hobby.

It's basically internal, not external. Learn how to do so unconditionally just like we were at birth and you got it.

We came into this world with enough. Remember that. Remember what it was like before other people told us what we were "missing" - fulfillment is right there.

OP is right, most folks generally don't have hobbies. When I say hobbies, that excludes stuff like watching TV and playing video games solo at the crib, I mean actually doing something actively...could be fitness-related, martial arts, cooking, some craft like photography, video editing, content creation, etc.

Hobbies help round you out and give you more to talk about besides work and whatever show you're catching up on.

Perhaps energy is better word. If you work a 10-12 hour day or have a long ass commute to work, you don't feel like doing much else.

That's very true! American work ethic isn't always conducive to happiness lol. But in some cases it ties back to bad habits as well. You can't sit eat, drink, and in some cases drug all day and expect to have energy to do a bunch of stuff.

everybody has hobbies, people just like to gate keep what is considered a valid hobby is all.
already saw someone in this thread say video games don't count. if i said drawing or playing an instrument didn't count there would be even more people without hobbies.
fact is in the 2020s most hobbies are computer or electronics based.
people aren't collecting stamps anymore or developing their own film.

Oh, I hate this shyt. I work 50-60 hours a week. Personally, I hope the US either adopts a 4 day work week or a 6 hour work day. I'm used to working long hours and expect it for my job, but it being mandatory kinda makes it so people find more shyt that has to be done, redundant work, or unproductive work. 4 days or 6 hours makes people work every hour they are working.

So gaming isn't a hobby, but video editing and content creation is?

I observed American normalcy and decided early on it wasn't for me. I've been working hard ever since to live as abnormal as possible. I've always negotiated an earlier schedule and for the position before this one, 3 WFH days. I work fully remote now and don't see myself heading back to an office anytime soon. I don't feel it will ever be a "normal" practice in America to work less, but individually people can find an opportunity that aligns with their values.
