What lack of trust? Based on what?

:jbhmm:

Why would Mayweather call MX Gloves "illegal"...after he fought Cotto who wore them...and at the same time let J'Leon Love fight against a guy wearing MX Gloves?

Where's the logic in that?
Mayweather says a lot of stuff.

And the lack of trust based on what happened with the first set of gloves. I'm assuming that, plus the prevailing opinion that the Garcia camp isn't exactly clean, from PEDs to dirty fighting is what made Floyd do what he did. It's stupid to think he wasn't worried about Cotto's power but he was worried about Maidana's. And even dumber to think he attributed Cotto's strength in that fight to his gloves.

He probably didn't think Cotto would inflict as much damage as he did. And he probably thought the gloves had something to do with it.
But Cotto and Maidana are very different fighters.

Maidana is a lot more of a high-action volume puncher that goes for the head.
Cotto is a lot more methodical and goes to the body.

Maybe Floyd didn't think that Cotto would come after him the way that he did.
Floyd KNEW Maidana would come at him the way Maidana did.

So maybe Floyd wanted to limit the damage Maidana would do since he was more likely to connect than Cotto.
I don't know. I'm just throwing theories.

:pachaha:

and if Floyd didn't trust the Garcia camp and thought Garcia's fighters were dirty...Floyd could have fought A LOT of other guys. Because it's not like he needed Maidana. If you really had all those doubts about the integrity of the camp, why make the fight? It's not like Maidana is a big draw.

Hmm, let's see. He's moving UP to fight a talented, strong, BIGGER future HOF'er. Has some rough moments and you think Mayweather attributed that to the gloves? Christ.

Sure. It does seem silly.

But can you think of another time an elite fighter ever made a big deal about gloves?

:dame:

Look, I think Floyd would beat Maidana even with his eyes closed. His skill level is way beyond Marcos'.

So when a guy who is clearly on that level fears an insignificant guy like Maidana and the gloves he wears...something's fishy.
