Sure. It does seem silly.

But can you think of another time an elite fighter ever made a big deal about gloves?

:dame:

Look, I think Floyd would beat Maidana even with his eyes closed. His skill level is way beyond Marcos'.

So when a guy who is clearly on that level fears an insignificant guy like Maidana and the gloves he wears...something's fishy.

:manny:
Is this a joke? The list of times fighters have complained about gloves is countless. It happened to Mayweather himself against Oscar when he wanted a specific glove and Oscar said no.

I meant source as far as the commission agreeing that the gloves were illegal.

Dispute over choice of gloves finally ends, Mayweather-Maidana title fight is a go

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said he spoke to Mayweather adviser Al Haymon, who confirmed the bout is on. Schaefer said Mayweather will wear Grant gloves, while Maidana will fight in Everlast. Schaefer did not know specifically which brand of Everlast Maidana will wear, though the Nevada Athletic Commission had approved a stock pair of red Everlast MX gloves.

The commission on Friday had ruled that a pair of custom blue Everlast MX gloves were invalid and couldn't be worn. Mayweather claimed there was no padding in the knuckles of those gloves.

Again, maidana tried to cheat/pull a fast one the first time

after that floyd took personal offense and strong armed him

can't blame him

I googled this and Oscar wanted to wear Reyes gloves (puncher's gloves) and Floyd said he wanted something else to protect his hands better.

Seems to me there's a trend of Floyd having a problem with fighters using punchers gloves.

Rafael: Mayweather wants credit

Gloves? De La Hoya wanted Reyes brand, the "puncher's glove." Even though Mayweather always wears Winning brand, which better protects his brittle hands, he agreed.

In that case, Floyd wore them and won anyway. But I'm just sayin...

:yeshrug:

I've never heard of a story where Ali or Tyson or Leonard or Hagler or Chavez or anybody else having a problem with gloves.
But then again I'm not a boxing historian so feel free to post examples

Also from that same Yahoo article:

Everlast CEO Neil Morton defended his company's manufacturing process for the boxing gloves and said he believes the dispute was simply a case of Mayweather seeking a psychological edge.

Morton said the custom gloves are manufactured exactly the same way as the stock gloves and the only difference is a different color of leather is used. He said he is willing to cut the gloves open to prove that to anyone who questions the validity of his claim. He said he didn't understand why the custom gloves were ruled invalid.

The fukkin CEO said the only thing custom about the gloves was the color.

Where does it say Floyd had an issue with what kind of gloves Oscar was wearing? You're just gonna pretend he did so you can pretend there is a pattern. Even though Cotto wore MX gloves. Even though Pacquiao was allowed different gloves. On and on. Funny guy.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

I don't really like how the whole thing is quoted in the ESPN article but to me it looked like they agreed to wear Oscar's gloves.

Gloves? De La Hoya wanted Reyes brand, the "puncher's glove." Even though Mayweather always wears Winning brand, which better protects his brittle hands, he agreed.

"I can't wear the gloves I want to wear, but he can wear the gloves he wants to wear, so he said, 'Let's put that in the contract.' So I said, 'OK, no problem.'"

I can't fukkin tell if that means Floyd agreed to wear Reyes Gloves, or if it means they agreed to each wear their own.

Floyd didn't care what glove Oscar wore. The issue was that Floyd wanted to wear Winning gloves (the brand he always wore) but Oscar wouldn't allow it. So Floyd wore Reyes.

lol the hate for mayweather is strong here
maidana got no blame for trying to cheat
it was floyd' fault as usual
the gloves maidana fought broner in were regular mx's
the same one cotto used against floyd
floyd has no problem with those or any other glove
the ones maidana was trying to sneak into the ring with against floyd were customized joints with no padding and were not regular mx's lol
u dont think floyd hasnt tried on damn near every glove in the business, he knew right away it was bullshyt

you see how the commission approved the non custom MX'S but not the blue ones that maidana was trying to get in the ring with
then you have the CEO of the company saying the only difference was the colour lmaoooo
the lengths white folks go to try and give this guy a L is astonishing

I'm a little concerned that you are questioning the integrity of the CEO of Everlast, breh.

Because by your logic...the CEO is lying and somehow part of some cheating scheme with Maidana.

Or.....

Floyd was just paranoid of Maidana's gloves.

I think the 2nd part is more likely.

I think the commission just wanted to cater to the champ.
It's politics.

Surely that's never been an issue in boxing before.

i don't understand how floyd was "paranoid" when the commission agreed with him that the gloves had no paddings and were invalid
how is that paranoia?
the commission deemed the other MX'S they had hanging around valid
only the ones maidana wanted to use were considered illegal
floyd could have EASILY said no MX gloves when they made the contract to the fight
he let him choose his own gloves until he tried to pull some sneak shyt
really doesnt get any more cut and dry than that but you can believe what you want:yeshrug:

So why didn't they cut the gloves open?

The CEO said he'd cut the gloves open to prove they were the same as the standard issue gloves.
This whole thing could have been solved with a pair of scissors.

They ruled out only one pair of gloves from that line. I mean, if we're gonna go with your conspiracy it would probably make sense for them to agree with Floyd and rule out MX gloves entirely since that what's he was secretly scared to get hit with :ohhh:

You need to step your troll game up. Knowing what you're talking about helps.
